There are so many benefits to getting out in nature and enjoying the great outdoors so it makes sense that lots of people are big into hiking. If you are planning on going hiking the first thing that should come to mind is getting a good pair of hiking boots. It is of the utmost importance that you find the right boots for your feet because the wrong boots are going to cause you a great deal of unnecessary pain.

There are a handful of different variables that will factor into your decision on the perfect hiking boot for you. Everyone’s feet are different shapes, lengths, and widths, and unless you know what to look for, it can be overwhelming. Hiking can be very hard on your feet, knees, and back, so you need to do whatever you can to protect them.

For some more information on choosing the right hiking boots for you just keep reading on below.

What Style To Choose?

There are a number of different options when it comes to the style of your hiking boots. You have five basic styles with different variations.

Trail boots are best for beginning hikers who really just plan on getting out for a jaunt on a well-kept trail. Rough-trail boots are the next step up for those who like extended day hikes and a bit of rough terrain at times. Off-trail boots offer more support and protection for when there is no trail except ones made by nature. Mountaineering boots are exactly what they sound like, boots that are designed for climbing very steep and rough terrain. Technical-scrambling boots are a sort of hybrid that offer serious mobility and are lightweight while still keeping your feet fairly well supported.

As you can tell the style all depends on the type of hiking you plan on doing that day. If you are a very serious hiker you will more than likely have multiple pairs for different types of hiking adventures.

Talk To An Expert

You always have the option of going to a hiking or outdoor lifestyle store and speaking to someone who does boot fittings. If the store is serious about their hiking they will have an expert on staff that will be able to size you up and help you find the right style and fit for your individual feet. They will pay careful attention to detail and know which current boots are going to work best for your situation.

Aesthetics Do Not Matter

If you are a serious hiker you are well aware that it doesn’t matter at all what you look like on the trail, just how comfortable and prepared you are. We all like to look good in our new sports gear but it would be ill-advised to purchase any type of hiking boot just because of the way it looks. Your feet will thank you for purchasing the proper boots and not the ones that look the best.

Let’s Hit The Trail

As you can see it really isn’t that difficult to find the right pair of boots for your next weekend outing. The biggest criteria for the type of boots you buy is going to be what you plan on doing in them and how your feet are shaped. You also always have the option to talk to a professional to get advice and sized properly. When you find the right boots for you hiking is going to become less about the exercise and more about being out and enjoying what mother nature has to offer.

If you’re one of those individuals who tend to overindulge during the dog days of summer; or during winter holiday, then you’re going to need to really work your butt off to lose those extra pounds. But no worries; you already have a bikini body – as does everyone who has a body and owns a bikini. Perhaps what you need is to trim some of those loose bits of fat that tend to get in the way when you break out the swimsuit.

To get you started on your weight loss plan, we suggest taking up a diet filled with veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, and of course, healthy fats (omega-3s); which of course, are essential to any diet. We also suggest adding dietary supplements like the Lactobacillus gasseri supplement into your diet to incorporate a microbial component into your weight loss regimen.

The recipes here are pretty straightforward and don’t require any super-exotic ingredients, but they taste great! You can also consider how dietary supplements could play a part – do plenty of research on the benefits, like this Bio X4 review.

So here we go;

Stay Lean with These 4 Principles:

  • Drink at Least 1 Gallon of Water a Day

We can’t stress enough how important it is to stay hydrated; especially if you spend a lot of time outside for work or fun. Without the right water intake, your body wouldn’t be able to process fat effectively; or get rid of toxins in the digestive tract that cause you to feel bloated all the time. Make an effort to drink the recommended 8 glasses per day – and use natural sweeteners if the thought of swallowing water makes you cringe.

  • Meal Tracking

Use apps to track your food intake; that way, you can have a better grip on your calorie count. These apps are available for both Android and IOS, so there’s no excuse for overeating.

  • Limit Your Carbohydrates

Carbs should be limited. This is the ideal amount of carbs that should be consumed on a low-carb diet. Dietary guidelines recommend that carbs provide about a quarter of your energy needs – so if for instance, you consume 2,000 calories per day, aim for about 100-200 grams of carbohydrates per day. Keep in mind that 2,000 calories per day is a bit on the high side for anybody trying to lose weight.

  • Eat More Protein!

Proteins are the building block of your muscles. For this reason, eating the right amount of proteins helps to keep your muscle mass intact – and it also helps to grow muscle. Another good reason for eating protein is that it prevents muscle loss during weight loss.

A note on portion size

Do everything you can to watch your portion size because it has a direct impact on your weight loss goals. So instead of using complicated matrices like ounces and grams to weight food portions, use something simpler to measure – like the palm of your hand. It’s a pretty effective method to use because remember, your hand usually scales with body size; so if you’re smaller, then eat less, according to your hand size. And if you are a big guy, the same principle applies.

The 4 Week Lean Diet Meal Plan

Before you get started on your 1-week meal plan, there are a number of things you should expect. For starters, you might start to feel tired because of the drop in carbs; but over time, your body will find ways to adjust. If you stick to this diet, then after two weeks you may start to lose an average of 2 pounds per week. The first week can get pretty intense, and you may lose anywhere from 3-5 pounds.

Breakfast:

  • Boiled Eggs
  • 45g Oats With 300ml Skimmed Milk and 1tsp Honey
  • Spinach Banana Protein Smoothie
  • Berry Parfait

Lunch:

  • Chicken Apple Salad
  • Greek Bowl
  • Grilled Chicken (1 Chicken Breast) Salad Sandwich With Wholemeal Bread
  • 1 Can of Tuna With Beetroot; 1 Low-fat Yoghurt.

Dinner:

  • Ginger Shrimp Stir-fry Saute
  • 1 Large Chicken Breast
  • Steak and Potatoes
  • Salmon With Mixed Vegetable Quinoa

Lean Snacks for Grumbling Stomachs

  • Apple Slices With Nut Butter
  • Greek Yogurt
  • Handful Mixed Nuts

To make your weight loss plan manageable, plan ahead and have a plan for dealing with food cravings – because no matter what, do NOT deviate from your diet. Have a positive attitude going into your meal plan, that way, you won’t suffer through the whole process.

Good luck!

Best Christmas holiday destinations

Whether you’re looking to make the most of the school holidays with the kids, take a romantic holiday for two or simply escape the winter bite, there are many amazing places to spend the festive season this year.

Here are our top five.

Germany

Germany is arguably the atypical destination to experience a traditional festive Christmas. No matter where you go you will find an enchanting Weihnachtsmarkt filled with handcrafted trinkets, sparkling tree ornaments and delicious sticky toffee.

Some people claim you have never experienced Christmas until you have visited a charming snow-covered medieval village that time has forgotten. The romanticism of Christmas really comes alive and with the sweet scents of cinnamon, mulled wine mixing with the sweet sounds of children singing carols, it’s just like the idea of Christmas you see in films.

Finland

If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, why not head to a holiday destination that is guaranteed plenty of the white stuff. Finland – and arctic wonderland drizzled in festive spirit and lit by ice lanterns. It’s the perfect setting for a romantic Christmas.

The natural setting plays a huge part in Finland’s landscape, but the snow-dusted fir forests and gushing waterfalls in wintertime are a sight to behold. Embrace Finnish culture and enjoy a sled pulled by huskies and watch the night skies to experience the magic of the Aurora Borealis.

New Zealand

Sun lovers look to escape the winter chill this Christmas might want to think about heading out to New Zealand and chilling out in the sun with laid-back Kiwis.

With long days and simmering hot temperatures, Christmas in New Zealand is mostly spent outdoors. Other than the traditional barbie on the beach, once you’ve opened your presents, you could be parasailing over pristine blue waters, crashing over waves on jet skis or relaxing by a peaceful lakefront.

Japan

Japan is probably not the first travel destination that springs to mind when you think of somewhere to spend Christmas, but don’t rule it out just yet – the Japanese celebrate the festive season in true style.

To be fair, you will recognize all the typical western influences such as fir trees, Santa and present-giving, but the Japanese also have their quirky traditions as well – such as going to KFC. This has been a Christmas tradition in Japan since an ad was aired on TV in 1974. And it’s still a thing.

The Japanese really go to town with the illuminations and have also introduced German-style Christmas markets complete with trinkets, lavishly filled trees and parcelled gifts.

Spain

Spain is a Catholic country and takes Christmas pretty seriously – so much so, the Spanish start dishing out turron in October, a traditional sweet made from almond and honey.

By December, the festivities are in full swing with carol singers, religious ceremonies, parades, fireworks, nativity scenes and streets lined with mesmerizing illuminations.

If you are thinking of heading to Spain for Christmas, it is recommended to visit one of the larger cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia or Seville as many of the locals living in small beach towns go away for Christmas, so everything is quiet.

Guided Tours

To make your Christmas really special, why not hire a local guide to introduce you to festive customs and show you the best places to go for Christmas dinner.

Have you ever wondered what laser hair removal is all about?

Every time you think of laser hair removal treatments, you probably wonder how expensive it is, especially if it is clinic also employes a laser for hair hair removal.

However, that should not worry you as you can perform the procedure at home by yourself. Thanks to modern skincare technology, there are laser hair removal devices that you can use at safely home. An example is Tria laser 4X that is approved by the FDA and comes with a simple and easy to understand manual.

Sounds fun? Well, you’ll have to invest in a good one to achieve flawless results. On top of that, they come with instructions that should be followed by the book. Finding it expensive to go to the clinic? Is it your first-time trying laser hair removal?

Try this home guide below.

Assess your Hair and Skin Tone

All laser hair removal devices are facilitated by different hair textures and skin tones. Normally, the laser will target the pigment making it suited for darker hair and light skin.

For darker skin, the melanin is usually affected by the laser heat resulting in the skin developing a burn. In terms of hair texture, ensure that it is not fair as you will achieve less impressive results. Consult a dermatologist if you are unsure of your hair texture and skin tone.

Identify Treatment Areas

Which part of your body do you want to get rid of the hair? Laser treatment is suited for lower leg region and underarms. Treating facial hair is highly discouraged because of hairs are fine and hormone-driven.

Also, avoid treating your genitalia or injured areas to prevent serious complications. How regularly you will undertake the procedure will be determined by your hair growth cycle. Doing it once a month is recommended, but if your hair grows faster then 2-3 times will be necessary.

Perform Shaving Religiously

The process of hair removal normally targets the follicle at the surface of your skin. Unlike waxing where you must pluck every strand from the root, shaving allows the hair follicles to remain at the bottom of your skin.

It is for this reason that waxing is discouraged before undertaking the laser process. Should you opt for waxing, then do so a month or two before your treatment, that way the laser equipment will be able to capture the follicles.

During the Laser Treatment Process

Make sure the body parts you intend to perform the laser treatment are thoroughly cleaned and well shaven.

Read all the instructions beforehand to avoid making mistakes that will jeopardize the results and healing process.

Now, begin by placing your device at 90-degree angle making sure it’s against the surface of your skin. Start circling in motion as you work your way through the area. Avoid revisiting the same spot twice as it will cause uncomfortable skin irritation.

After the Laser Treatment Process

Once you are done, clean up the hair free area with recommended disinfectants and apply after shave creams.

Disinfect the treated areas regularly and look out for anything odd. Moreover, avoid excessive exposure to the sun as it will affect the healing process. Should anything come up, consult your doctor immediately.

You may be bored in your current healthcare role and are looking for ways to challenge yourself or make more money. One idea is to focus on how you can take your career to another level and progress in a forward direction over time.

What you don’t want to do is get too comfortable where you are or stop trying to advance your skills. Instead, concentrate on figuring out how you can spend your time productively and get ahead in your nursing career. You’ll be much happier when you’re performing well and being properly compensated for your hard work and efforts in a role that’s better suited for you.

Map out A Plan

It’s important to have a plan of attack for what you want your next step to be in your career. Start mapping out where you see yourself in five and ten years from now and how you’re going to get there. Begin to set goals for what you want to accomplish as time goes on and you gain more experience in your position. This is going to give you more insight as to what possibilities exist in your field based on the direction you want to head.

Obtain an Advanced Degree

Take your nursing career to the next level by committing to pursuing continuing education. For instance, you may want to check out the DNP executive leadership online programs and what jobs you’ll be able to get after completing these courses. While there are certain educational requirements you’ll have to take in your career, there are also courses that you can pursue that will directly help you to get a job that will require more responsibility and higher levels of critical thinking. With a busy schedule, an online program may be exactly what you need to help you meet this objective.

Focus on Networking

Additionally, another way to move on up with your nursing career is to focus on building a strong network of connections. Some of these people you meet may be able to open doors for you and get you interviews at employers where you want to work. Also, it’ll be nice to meet other like-minded individuals who are already successful in their careers or who are also working on getting ahead currently like you. Spend your time putting yourself out there and networking with other healthcare professionals, both online and offline and see what advice they have for you. Attend networking events and conferences as one way to grow your network and meet new people.

Join Professional Organizations

You should also consider joining professional organizations as a way to take your nursing career to the next level. Not only will you get to know more people but you’ll also be furthering your knowledge and skills by taking part in these types of groups. In addition, it looks great on your resume and like you’re using your free time wisely. Keep in mind that there are general groups to join as well as those focused more on a specific specialty so do your homework before committing to a particular organization or association. It’s an opportunity to gain new experiences outside of your normal job duties and routine and to learn from others in your field.

Volunteer in Your Free Time

Another way to build up your resume is to volunteer your time when you have the chance. It’s a great way to explore different paths or avenues related to the nursing field. You’ll also be helping out those in need and it’ll feel good to put a smile on someone else’s face. You never know when your volunteer work may turn into a full-time job or position down the road as well. There may also be chances to take on more responsibility right where you currently work instead of having to look elsewhere to volunteer. Be prepared to raise your hand and offer up your assistance if your boss is looking for someone to take on additional responsibilities at your workplace.

Track Your Performance

The reality is that only you know exactly what you’ve achieved and accomplished over the years. It’s important that if you want to get ahead in your career that you’re willing and able to talk yourself up. You’ll be more likely to get a promotion at your job when you can prove that the work you’ve done has truly benefited your workplace. Therefore, get in the habit of tracking your own performance and being able to speak highly about what you bring to the table so you can get noticed at work.

Focus on Building A Good Reputation for Yourself

Part of the job of being a good nurse will entail you being someone who’s trustworthy and can demonstrate integrity in all you do. Therefore, focus your time on building a good reputation for yourself in the nursing field. Always maintain a positive attitude, confidentiality and be respectful of other people and their time. Take your nursing career to the next level by allowing others to see and recognize that you’re a team player so that they want to work with you in the future.

Be Proactive

What furthering your nursing career truly comes down to is you being proactive and dedicated to your profession. It’s important that you’re hands-on in your approach and never give up trying to improve over the years. You can’t sit around waiting for opportunities to come to you or you may be missing out on current chances to advance your career. For example, you can choose to obtain additional certifications in your down time or work on developing your leadership skills so you can move into a management position.

Conclusion

These are a few ways for how you can take your nursing career to the next level and get ahead at work. Have fun seeing what you’re capable of and how far you can go when you put your mind to it. Avoid worrying about the what-ifs and conquer any fears by coming up with a plan and then taking action to achieve your goals.

What do you do with old engine oil

There are many things you can do to help the environment, but one that a lot of people never think of is recycling their oil. In fact, most people do not bother to change their oil themselves. It is a simple process that anyone can do to save money. When you do change your oil, make sure not to let it run into a storm drain. This is the worst thing you could do with it. You also should not simply throw it away. Collect the oil and take it to a place that can recycle it. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about recycling your oil. Of course, if you want to pay someone else to change your oil, that is fine too. Just make sure you find oil change specials that take pride in recycling oil.

Why Recycle Oil

First things first, is oil recycling really all that important? It absolutely is. Oil is actually one of the most environmentally damaging materials humans produce. One gallon of oil can contaminate hundreds of thousands of gallons of water. Plus, it is deadly to plants and animals. If you dump your oil directly into the environment, something is going to suffer from it somewhere down the line.

Ignoring the environmental factor completely, oil has incredible uses when recycled. It can be used to heat homes, create electricity, and even be turned into new oil. Motor oil is especially useful when recycled, being able to create lubricating oil much more efficiently than crude oil. Needless to say, there many reasons to recycle your car’s oil.

Where To Recycle Oil

It is not hard to find somewhere that handles oil recycling. The easiest solution is to take it to an auto parts store or mechanic that offers recycling services. Most of these places will, but you should check online to be sure. Most places are proud to advertise that they recycle oil. Some traditional recycling plants also take oil, although most of these places focus on traditional recycling materials, such as paper, plastic, and aluminum.

How To Recycle Oil

It is not hard to take your oil to a place where it can be recycled, but here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Be careful of spills – Use a drip pan to make sure no drops of oil spill onto the concrete where they might be washed into a storm drain. Some drip pans have a spout to help transfer it to a container.
  • Use the right container – Oil can eat through some materials over time. You need to use PE (polyethylene) plastic. Using milk cartons is a mistake many people make.
  • Keep the oil pure – The oil cannot be recycled if it is mixed with other fluid, such as brake fluid.
  • Bring the oil filter too – The oil filter can also be recycled.
  • Dispose of properly – If you cannot recycle for some reason, take it to a hazardous material disposal center instead.

It may seem like a hassle to recycle your oil, but it makes a huge difference.

As I write this, Belle is upstairs putting together a flat pack hamster cabinet. (Best not to ask.) It struck me that there are probably plenty of 17 year olds who wouldn’t know what to do with an electric screwdriver and set of flat pack furniture instructions, and so I indulged in a brief moment of parental smugness.

‘Haven’t I done well,’ I thought, ‘bringing up such capable, independent children.

Life is Crawsome family photo shoot

It reminded me of when Bee went off to university, which was six years ago now, if you can believe it, which I can’t. In her first year she lived in halls in a flat with seven other people and when she arrived she was the only one of them that knew how to use a washing machine.

That’s not cool is it? To get to 18 years old and not even be able to wash your own clothes is worrying, to say the least. I blame the parents, obviously, because I am 99% sure I am peri-menopausal and so I say things like that now.

It got me thinking about some of the useful things I’ve taught Bee and Belle over the years, as well as some of the life skills I probably SHOULD have taught them, and so I’ve put all of these thoughts together into a helpful list of seven things to teach your kids before they leave home.  View Post

When taking care of your child, it’s always important to take yourself into consideration as well. Setting the right example for your kid by being a healthy and happy role model is surely the best way to raise them, but they can run into unexpected issues. If your son is struggling with the terrible reality of addiction and sobriety, there are plenty of resources available locally and throughout the Internet to help your family with the journey.

Recovery Homes

When you feel as if your son’s addiction has gotten out of control, it may be time to enter him into a recovery home. Centers like https://newlifehouse.com support personal growth and excitement. Activities in the house are designed to help struggling people overcome their addiction and find a new sense of purpose. The purpose of recovery communities is to assist addicts in finding what they feel they couldn’t have before – a real life.

Be Their Support

It’s true that many addicts become reliant on substances because of trauma in early life. By becoming a trustworthy person that your child can talk to whenever, you can help them gain their self-confidence and build trusting relationships with other peers and family members. Never tear your kid down when they’re trying to recover, because as their mother, they look to you as the number one support system in their life.

Fight the Addiction, Not the Person

It’s sometimes easy to forget that underneath the addiction, your child is still that good person they were before. Remind yourself not to personally attack or criticize your son for being a bad person, and instead remind them you are there to help no matter how bad it gets. Being mean to your kid will only push them farther away and make it less likely for them to get help and get sober.

Love Yourself

It is important not to hold yourself accountable for the choices of your son. You will always be their mother but you cannot feel responsible for their choice to start taking drugs. Give yourself the benefit of the doubt and remind yourself that you are doing all you can to help them. It’s not your fault.

Never Enable

One of the best things you can do as a parent of an addict is to love your child unconditionally and let them suffer the natural consequences of their actions. If you give them money when they’re in need, there’s a chance they could use that to fuel their addiction. Instead, buy them groceries or clothes if you can so they know they can count on you, but not be able to put themselves in harm’s way because of you. This way, you know you’re helping them get resources to live and not to buy or use illegal things.

Addicts Can Lie

As a parent of an addict, you might have to learn to accept that your son will not be completely up-front with you. Addicted people will do a lot to hide their worsening addiction, or the fact that they’ve relapsed. Children seek approval from their parents and definitely do not want to let them down. Never rely on faith alone to prove that they’re not using, and seek hard evidence that their addiction is getting better before giving them the positive reinforcements.

Don’t Be Afraid To Get Help

When your son grows older, your responsibility as a parent lessens. Know that your child’s actions aren’t your fault, and you can only do so much to help them out of this hard time. It is basically impossible to help someone that isn’t interested in helping themselves. Recovery communities and good family support systems may be the best options to ensure recovery.

bedroom design tips

Your bedroom is where you spend a large majority of your time, and therefore it is an area of the house that a lot of consideration should be put into designing. When choosing the right materials and products for your bedroom, there are many different elements to consider. A lot of people decide to use synthetic materials, as they tend to be cheaper than natural ones due to the ease of how they are manufactured. However, there is a wide range of reasons why you might choose to use natural materials in your home instead; for example, most hardwood furniture has higher-end finish than plastic or other man-made materials. Additionally, beyond style alone, there are many advantages to using natural materials which often get overlooked. So, with that in mind, here are some reasons why you might benefit from using natural materials in your bedroom.

Health

When most people think of health, the first thing that comes to their mind is their diet or the amount of exercise they are getting daily. But just as important as that is all of the substances that people come into contact with throughout the day, and that includes in the home as well. The bedroom is where people spend a large majority of their time, particularly at night, so it is important to ensure that the materials used in these rooms don’t include any harmful chemicals and that the air is kept clean.

This means avoiding the use of too many plastics, toxin-containing candles, and mattresses that contain volatile compounds. Instead of these products, the use of an organic hypoallergenic mattress will help you sleep better at night while reducing the amount of exposure you have to allergens. Other simple changes you can make to your living environment include using flowers and plants to create a natural and clean aroma, rather than harmful sprays and perfumes, and avoiding burning candles in your bedroom unless they are made from natural substances.

 bedroom design natural materials

Comfort

Many natural materials bring an element of comfort that synthetic materials do not, due to man-made products often becoming flat and worn down over time. Many natural materials, such as wool and feather, are inherently designed to be water-resistant, meaning that they hold onto pockets of air easily. It is this natural phenomenon that allows them to feel light and airy to the touch, creating a much softer surface for your duvets and pillows, increasing comfort and an added touch of luxury.

Design

Natural products tend to have the kind of effortless beauty which you won’t find in synthetic substances, and this is something that comes with organic aging processes and pure color schemes. This is particularly important in bedrooms, as color scheme and atmosphere can be key to a good night’s sleep, and natural materials are far more likely to be soothing with their neutral tones and fresh, grounding aesthetic.

natural materials bedroom

Sustainability

Natural materials typically last longer and can withstand more wear and tear than man-made ones. For example, think about a standard plastic-based table: once it gets a few scratches it starts to look tired and cheap, whereas a solid hardwood table only looks more distinguished and refined the older it gets, even when it withstands some damage. It is also much easier to upcycle hardwood and other natural materials, as they take well to paints, varnishes and sanding to remove marks, processes which are much harder to undergo on synthetic materials.

The wrong mattress can ruin your sleep quality for years. Investing in the right type of bed can seem like a daunting task. You want to find the perfect product that meets your needs and stays within your price range.

To better decide which mattress is right for you, and help you get a better nights sleep, keep reading to learn about your available options. Spring and foam mattresses are among the most common types, and you can learn how to select between them.

Types of mattresses

Spring or foam mattresses are most common but they are by no means the only option:

● Spring mattresses

● Foam mattresses

● Gel mattresses provide a cooler sleeping surface. It offsets the heating effects of foam by absorbing the temperature over a more extended time.

● Latex mattresses provide a natural solution for bedding. They have more bounce and retain less heat.

Hybrid mattresses can offer the support and comfort of multiple types in one product. You can experience a soft, foam-like feeling with firm, spring mattress support.

● Waterbeds are not as popular as they once were, but these mattresses feature fillable chambers to adjust your bed.

● Pillowtop mattresses feature extra padding on top of the bed. This material can cool, add comfort, and add bounce to the mattress beneath.

● Polyfoam mattresses offer customized solutions and feature a variety of densities.

● Adjustable beds can recline or sit up with the press of a button.

● Airbeds typically offer a convenient, temporary solution with an air-filled mattress.

● Organic mattresses utilize other resources to create mattresses sustainably.

Out of all of the available types of mattresses, spring and foam options are the most popular. Both options have been around for decades and offer a range of products to suit your unique sleeping needs. Learn more about spring mattresses and memory foam options below.

What is a spring mattress?

Innerspring mattresses have been around for a long time, and they continue to be one of the most popular types of mattresses. Generally, steel coils inside the mattress compress whenever you lay on the bed. There are several types of spring mattresses with a range of coil types and quantities.

● Continuous coils support your bed with just one wire. These coils are twisted into an S-shape and offer increased durability for your mattress.

● Bonnell – This is one of the oldest types of mattresses, first used for buggy seat cushions. These coils are formed in an hourglass structure.

● Offset coils – These are in an hourglass shape and provide a quiet, sturdy surface.

● Marshall coils – These coils are independent and provide motion isolation.

● Pocketed coils – These are similar to Marshall coils. More coils usually equals higher quality.

Benefits of a spring mattress

Spring mattresses have a lot of benefits that may suit your needs. Visit different home or mattress stores to test out the different types of spring mattresses and find the right brand for you.

● Cost-effective: Innerspring mattresses are very common and therefore have a lower price tag. These mattresses are great if you need a quality mattress on a smaller budget.

● Durable: An innerspring mattress can last many years if you care for it properly. The solid construction keeps the springs from wearing out quickly.

● Availability: You can find spring mattresses online or in almost any home or mattress store.

● Ventilation: Heat quickly dissipates because of the space between the mattresses.

Cons of a spring mattress

Spring mattresses aren’t perfect. There are a few drawbacks to this type of bed that may make you decide to choose a different option.

● Wear & tear: The springs or coils can lose support over time. This wear and tear will affect the firmness of your mattress and your overall sleep quality.

● Heavy: If you ever have to move a spring mattress, it is a lot to carry. It is also difficult to clean or air out this type of bed.

● Allergens: Dust mites and other allergens can get trapped in the wool and fiber of this type of mattress. You have to clean a spring mattress more frequently to prevent problems with allergies.

● Significant motion transfer: Many types of innerspring mattresses have significant motion transfer. If you share your bed with a partner, you could easily disturb one another if you move during the night.

What is a foam mattress?

Memory foam mattresses are quickly becoming a popular option for beds. As memory foam improves in quality, these mattresses offer more benefits to consumers. They are often considered one of the most comfortable types of mattresses on the market thanks to their pillow-like surface.

Benefits of a foam mattress

Foam mattresses provide a higher level of comfort and reduce the pressure on your spine. Over the years, memory foam has been researched and studied to make further improvements in the quality and application of this material.

● Comfort: The soft surface conforms to your body as you rest.

● Less pressure: Foam mattresses reduce stress on your spine as you sleep. This type of bed has been shown to reduce back or neck pain over time.

● Silent: This type of mattress does not have any springs or coils and is virtually silent.

● Hypoallergenic: The materials used in foam mattresses resist dust mites and prevent issues with allergies.

● Limited motion transfer: You or your partner can move around without disturbing the other.

Cons of a foam mattress

There are some drawbacks to consider with memory foam mattresses as well.

● Weight: These are also cumbersome mattresses and challenging to move or clean.

● Firmness: Memory foam tends to be softer in hot climates and firmer in cold climates. The firmness of your mattress is likely to change throughout the seasons.

● Odor: If you do not air out this type of bed, it can absorb unpleasant smells.

● Price: The high quality carries a higher price tag. This mattress may not be a viable option if you are on a tighter budget.

Recommendations for Choosing Your Mattress

If you are looking for a quality mattress that is affordable and dependable, an innerspring mattress may be best. This type of bed has been around for a long time and offers a reliable solution to getting quality sleep. You may need to purchase a slipcover to prevent allergens from collecting in your mattress or a mattress topper to make your bed more comfortable. However, it is still one of the most popular bedding options for good reasons.

For shoppers with a larger budget or chronic back pain, a memory foam mattress is your best bet. This type of mattress relieves pressure on your spine and offers a higher quality of sleep every night. While it does carry a hefty price tag, you are paying for a higher standard of quality. You can also find a hybrid mattress to pair the comfort of memory foam with the structure of spring mattresses. If you are looking for a high-quality hybrid or memory foam mattress, Inofia.com has a variety of options to meet your needs.

It’s been just over a month since the annual event that is A-level results day. So it’s as good a time as any for some reflections. There are some things that will always be the same when it comes to A-level results day; Jeremy Clarkson will post a humble-brag about how he flunked his exams, but still lives in a huge house, holidays in a castle, and has his choice of luxury cars. At least one tabloid will somehow manage to find a set of over-achieving, photogenic triplets who all got straight A’s and are now trying to decide between their choice of top universities. And there will be some 11-year-old wonder kid somewhere in England or Wales who was skipped ahead a few years and took their A-levels early. And they passed. With exceptional grades.

But there are things that happen every year too, albeit slightly under the radar. And it’s time we discussed those.

The teachers are exhausted

Yes, it’s great to celebrate the kids and give them their moment to shine, but have you ever noticed how the teachers are almost always overlooked. You might hear of a standout student getting a whole raft of top grades, or even a particular school that’s done well, but it’s rare to see teachers, either individually or as a profession, singled out for a bit of praise. It’s time we shifted our focus a little from the broad stats and trends and focused more on those on the frontline shepherding our nation’s kids through one of the most stressful and influential periods of their young lives.

Not everyone’s kids got the grades they want

For the first time in 12 years the proportion of students receiving the top grades dropped. And people seemed quite shocked about this. Unless we’re expecting kids to be on a constant and indefinite upward curve of improvement, there are going to be years where students didn’t outperform the previous year’s intake.

It’s not a big deal. But you wouldn’t think that reading the media reactions. And here’s what’s really infuriating. For the past 11 years, the media (not to mention plenty of people not employed to share their opinion) have pushed the narrative that since grades were improving year-on-year, that the exams must have been getting easier. Those same voices have gone oddly silent now their theory suggests that exams must in fact be getting harder.

Not everyone’s kids want to go to university

According to some news reports, something a little unusual happened on A-Level results day this year. While students were receiving their grades, there was a surge in Google search traffic for queries related to careers in the skilled trades. At various points on the day the results were issued, there were spikes for search terms such as ‘electrician training near me’, ‘plumber apprenticeships’, or ‘locksmith earnings’. The company that collected and analyzed this search data suggests that it’s a sign that young people are doing research into vocational careers like electrics as well as considering an academic path. And given the economic uncertainty in the country at the moment, as well as the astronomical cost of actually going to university, maybe they’re the truly smart ones.

Hopefully the mild shock of 2019’s A-Level results falling below expectations will be a turning point for how we talk about what has become an annual media circus. Kids will continue to study hard, some will do well and go to a great university, others will do OK and go to their second choice, and others will decide that university isn’t really for them at all. And we should be celebrating all of those choices.
