This post is in collaboration with Poki – the ultimate playground for kids of all ages
As a mum, I’m often asked about the best way to entertain kids. (I’m an expert don’t you know.) Every child is, of course, different; your kids might thrill to a good movie or they might be bored stiff by Toy Story (honestly, it’s unlikely, but it does happen). How exactly you can keep your little ones entertained and enraptured through a wet and wild Sunday afternoon is the question asked by desperate parents everywhere.
If your kid is partial to the odd online game, then you might want to check out Poki. Poki.com is a gaming portal and website billing itself as an “online playground” for kids and adults alike. It’s designed to be inclusive, with something for everyone, whether you consider yourself a gamer or not. There is so much to choose from, you’re sure to find a game that your kids (or you) enjoy.
Bee and Belle are basically both grown ups now, but they both still enjoy playing games on their phones. They particularly love the games where you have to move people through a series of spa treatments or run a cafe, although I think Belle’s favourite aspect of this is getting me to have a go and then laughing when I burn all the burgers and all my customers walk out without paying.
To make playing online games a little easier, Poki have generously offered me a 32GB Fire HD 8 Tablet, worth £99, to giveaway. The Fire tablet is ideal for playing games – read on for more details of how to win!
If you’re not too up-to-date with gaming, you can enjoy all kinds of games on Poki with keyboard and mouse controls instead of fiddling about with touch interfaces. There’s a good reason Poki enjoys over 28 million visitors to its website each month – it’s simply good old-fashioned entertainment with a view to inclusivity.
Okay. So you’ve navigated your web browser to Poki and you’re checking out the games. Some of these games look pretty cool, you’re thinking, but you’re just not sure which one to go for. Well, I’ve got a place for you to start: Moto X3M. As the many burnt burgers will attest to, I’m not a natural when it comes to gaming, but check out Moto X3M here and you’ll find it has that old school Super Mario feel about it, which is kind of comforting. Each level contains plenty of hazards and traps for your biker to make it past, so it’s all about you and how well you can control the game.
For control, you’ve got your keyboard. You won’t need any keys other than your arrows – up, down, left, and right – so don’t worry about complex controls or having any difficulty actually playing Moto X3M. Up and down accelerate the bike, while the left and right arrow keys lean you left and right respectively. It’s a pretty intuitive system once you get used to it. (Read ‘after many attempts to not be a complete clod’ in my case.)
Once you do get the hang of things, you’ll find a responsive and enjoyable bike game which is fun for all ages. There’s no gore or anything particularly upsetting – your rider goes a tad limp if you crash him, but he seems pretty good at dusting himself off and having another go.
The game offers a total of 25 stages to get stuck into, each of which is slightly more difficult than the last. The challenge increases nicely, which makes this the perfect game for introducing kids to challenge curves and difficulty in games. There are also some fun extra bikes to unlock with stars you earn for driving well.
