Win a bundle of Ecover goodies, worth £50 + my thoughts on the new Ecover washing up liquid

When I meet people in person, a lot of them ask me why I have ‘slummy’ in my blog name. I expect they are disappointed that I don’t have bits of scrambled egg in my hair, or odd shoes on, or something like that.

True story as a quick aside – I did actually wear odd shoes out the other day. In fact, I had actually bought odd shoes, not noticing that one was a matt orange colour and the other a shiny red. It’s because I mainly looked at them through Instagram filters rather than in real life, and it was confusing.

Can you tell??

I have new sandals but I’m worried I might look like a Grandma? (Please ignore the old nail varnish on my stubby toes.)

A photo posted by Josephine Middleton (@slummysinglemummy) on

Anyway, the slumminess is really less to do with my outward appearance, and more about my dislike of any sort of cleaning, especially the sort that involves getting my hands wet. (I.e. the worst kind.) I prefer dry chores like reorganising books and light dusting. Washing up is my absolute least favourite thing. Oddly, when I’m actually doing it, it’s not so bad, but there is something about the thought of it that just makes me want to cry or hide in a cupboard.

When Ecover sent me some of their new washing up liquid to try then, I wasn’t exactly jumping up and down with excitement at first. Don’t get me wrong, I love Ecover as a brand, not least because I feel properly middle class with a bottle of it by my sink, but you know, dishes and all that…

ecover washing up liquid

I’m a bit of a nazi when it comes to taps being left running, or food waste going in the wrong bin, so I’m totally on board with the green principles behind Ecover. Their new washing up liquid has an improved formula, so now it washes more plates than ever, at the same time as being made with 99.8% plant based materials.

Despite my dislike for washing up, I did like the Ecover washing up liquid. Sometimes with ‘green’ products you feel like you’re compromising on cleaning power for the sake of the eco-credentials, but you really don’t get this with Ecover. I’ve always used their sprays and have never been anything other than totally happy with the results. When I run out of spray, I’ll often make up another bottle by diluting some of their multi-purpose cleaner with water – it lasts for ages that way, plus I save money too.

We were particularly pleased to have the Ecover washing up liquid with us on our motorhome trip around Ireland, as we stayed for two nights at an eco camp site, where no chemical cleaning products were allowed. We fitted right in in the camp kitchen.

Now the best bit.

As a reward for reading this far, you now have the chance to win everything from the Ecover laundry and household range. How cool is that?? Altogether it’s worth about £50, and it’s basically a makeover for your cupboard under the sink.

In a geeky way it’s actually a prize I’d really like myself as my under sink cupboard is a disgrace and coated in a sort of weird rust. I love the idea of cleaning it all out and having everything lovely and neat and matching. To enter, simply fill in as many of the options as you can in the Rafflecopter widget below.

The competition will close on September 15th at 5pm. Good luck!

Since I’ve bought a steam mop I just love mopping. I have all hard floors and it’s so theraputic to glide the steam mop over the floors, hissing and making short work of stains and dirt. It’s also eco friendly as it doesn’t need detergents to get the floors really clean.

Dish washing, as I encourage family to empty their plates etc. As food is for eating, whilst if they can’t manage it all:- then they know where to dispose of it, and that place is Definately not the sink or dishwasher. Here it is the bin, some places have bins for recycling leftover foodstuffs. Whilst from TV programmes etc it looks like America has waste disposal units. I rinse dishes under the hot tap, till they look clear/ clean of debris. Then I soak dishes in hot water and washing up liquid. The dishes come out squeaky clean, to be stacked in the dish rack to dry. Then I return the clean dry dishes to the cupboard, ready for when they are next needed. Seems a Woman’s work is never done, Thank goodness for equality etc.
