I was talking to my brother-in-law this week about the importance of joy, and was telling him about how much joy I can take from the very smallest of things. ‘Honestly,’ I said, ‘I can go to bed excited about having a nice cup of coffee the next morning.’
And it’s true. The ritual of either spending time making myself a cup of good coffee or treating myself to one somewhere out and about is a seemingly small thing that can have a huge impact. Factor in meeting up with a friend or family member to share your coffee with and it takes on even more significance. Suddenly that simple cup of coffee has become an experience, an opportunity to exchange news, to share worries and to feel closer to someone. I’ve definitely felt that over the last couple of years during lockdowns, when so many of my meetups with friends have been spent walking through parks, our hands wrapped around takeaway cups of coffee.
When you think about it, a cup of coffee is pretty special isn’t it? Buying someone a cup of coffee MEANS something.
Which is why I think this Mother’s Day could be the time to switch it up a bit. Forget flowers and chocolates and buy the special mum in your life coffee from The Brew Company instead.
(Don’t worry if your mum isn’t a coffee drinker, they do tea too.)
The idea behind The Brew Company’s Coffeebrewer range is simple – premium quality ground coffee that you brew in the bag, without the need for any kind of fancy coffee machine. The patented brewing system ensures a state-of-the-art coffee infusion that gives a result that’s a bit of a crossover between pour-over coffee and a French press. Basically you get to be your own barista, wherever you are – at work, travelling, or how about camping? I think they’d be brilliant for that.
All of The Brew Company’s coffees are hand roasted in their own artisan micro-roastery in Denmark and the beans are traded above Fairtrade minimum prices. As a company, they’re committed to their eco-credentials, working with WeForest to offset 10 tonnes of carbon every single month, and they’re plastic neutral. The coffeebrewers and teabrewers are made from recyclable kraft paper, so you can recycle them just as you would a cardboard milk carton. In fact you can take it even further if you want to, and reuse your coffee brewer by simply rinsing it and refilling it with fresh coffee. This makes it even better for things like camping and caravan holidays, where space is at a premium.
What would make it extra special is if you gave your coffee or tea gift with the promise of sharing them. They could be a sort of voucher – ‘I promise to take time out to enjoy five cups of coffee with you and catch up on life.’
Have I sold the idea to you yet?
To make it easy, The Brew Company has a whole range of tea and coffee gift boxes for every occasion, including Mothers Day, plus tea and coffee cards, because why send a boring old card through the post when you could send a personalised message and tea or coffee? The tea and coffee cards fit through the letterbox and come in lots of fun different designs, as well as the Mothers Day edition.
If all of this sounds like jolly good fun and like I may have solved your thoughtful gift for Mothers Day dilemma this year then YOU’RE WELCOME! I think it’s really cute and I’m sure it would honestly make a welcome change from a box of Lindor and some Tesco flowers. Off you go and order now.
While you wait for Mothers Day to roll around and your gift to be admired and appreciated, how about having a go at winning some coffee for yourself too? You’ve put all that thought into Mothers Day after all, maybe you are a mother already – you deserve a treat too! Or save it and give it to your mum when you see her, I won’t tell her you won it in a competition.
