How ARE you?

It’s a question I feel like we’ve been asking each other a lot over the last couple of years, and for at least the first 18 months of that I would have said ‘I’m fine!’

Fine. It’s such a nothing word isn’t it?

‘Oh you know,’ I might have followed up with, ‘just plodding along!’

PLODDING. Ergh, what a grim description to have of your own life.

If you’ve asked me in the last few months though, as long as you haven’t caught me on a bad dog day, then I definitely won’t have described myself as plodding, because I have been feeling GOOD.

ACTIVELY GOOD. Look at me this morning – this is an actively good face.

Now when I say good, I don’t mean I’m bouncing off the walls in excitement, full of boundless energy, in the gym every morning or anything like that, let’s not get silly, but I feel NORMAL.

For quite a long time now I’ve been feeling off my game in an undefinable way. I felt flat. In fact I was beginning to wonder whether I’d imagined ever having energy or enthusiasm. It was June 2019 when I first talked about it as a midlife unravelling, but I’d been feeling that way already for a while. It gradually became less just about heavy sighing and more about night after night of disturbed sleep, a total lack of concentration or motivation, and a general feeling of being overwhelmed by life. It wasn’t fun.

So what’s changed?

A few things I’d say.

Firstly, I’ve started HRT. I’ve not talked a lot about it on the blog, but I’ve banged on a lot about it on Instagram, so if you’re interested you should come and follow me there. If you look at the photos and compare the captions in this post to this post I don’t think you can help but notice a difference. I didn’t have high expectations for the HRT to be honest, I guess because I didn’t have high expectations for much generally, but it has made SUCH a difference. I just feel like myself again, I’m sleeping better, and opening my laptop doesn’t make me want to cry, which is a major improvement.

On the back of my new found me-ness, I’ve been making an effort to be more selfish. I think selfish gets a bad press but, as women and mothers especially, we could do with a bit more practice. I’ve started letting go of guilt around spending money on myself and taking time to do the things I want to do. I’m not awesome at it yet, but I’m trying. I made self my word of the year for 2021 after all, so I can at least try.

I’ve also been thinking about myself from a physical perspective. When I feel low or tired, my physical health tends to be neglected – I exercise less, I eat more trashy food and cook less from scratch. Having more energy means I’m cooking more, and to bring it all together health wise I’ve been taking Lumity Morning & Night supplements for the last couple of months.

Lumity Morning & Night supplements

They look pretty don’t they? When you first sign up for a Lumity Morning & Night subscription you get these beautiful glass bottles, one for morning and one for night-time, (dur), and every month you refill the bottles from 100% compostable pouches. No plastics going in the bin, no ugly tubs of capsules, just these gorgeous glass jars and no waste.

So what are Lumity Morning & Night supplements?

An excellent question! Lumity Morning & Night supplements are a two-step system, each with a unique formula designed especially for women and created to work in harmony with your natural circadian rhythms. What does that mean? Basically it means that the active ingredients in each product – the morning and the night – are there to support your body’s different needs at different times of the day. They’re designed to deliver nourishment from the inside out, sustaining youth and giving you the energy to focus on the things most important to you. Sounds good doesn’t it?

When you look at the individual ingredients and how they support energy levels, brain health, immune health, hormonal balance and structural strength it’s no wonder I’m feeling sprightly. There’s loads of information about them on the Lumity website, but some of the key benefits can include:

  • Better sleep and increased energy levels – magnesium is brilliant for this, plus vitamin C, both of which can also help support your nervous system and psychological function
  • Healthy skin via vitamin A, zinc, iodine and vitamin C, (which also supports collagen formation), and strong hair and nails thanks to selenium and zinc. Omega3s and amino acids also promote supple skin and radiance. (I look radiant yes?)
  • Magnesium, zinc and vitamin D to support the maintenance of strong bones and teeth and muscle function.
  • Selenium and iodine for healthy thyroid function production of thyroid hormones.

They do loads of stuff basically.

Although it’s never possible to say exactly what changes come from where, I definitely have more energy overall and my sleep is better at the moment than it has been for years. I can feel noticeable differences in smaller things like my nails and hair too.

Taking Lumity Morning & Night just feels like a no brainer at the moment – an easy way to help support the improvements I’m seeing in my emotional and physical well-being and to help me recapture that energy that I thought I’d lost for good.
