We’ve scoured the flights departing from Gatwick and found some of our favourites. See if they spell a dream holiday for you.

Paris, France

Paris is the city of l’amour, where roses are available on every corner and marriage proposals are happening on every bridge. Wander the banks of the Seine and you’ll enjoy fine French dining (from admittedly quite surly waiters), the best art galleries in Europe and the unmistakably beautiful sight of the Parisian street lights glinting on the river water.

Being a short flight away, Paris is a great destination for day trips as well. Just hop on a quick flight, leave your luggage at Gare du Nord and wander this beautiful city.

Venice, Italy

There’s a very good reason to visit Venice soon – it might be underwater in a decade’s time.

More than any other major city, the sell-by-date on Venetian living is perilously close, and all it will take is an unexpected flood to see this historically rich location become the new city of Atlantis.

So enjoy it while it lasts. While you’re there, be sure to visit Doge’s Palace, one of the most impressive gothic palaces you’re likely to lay eyes on. This awe-inspiring building is also a museum that’s teeming with classical art, so wander the halls and soak up the atmosphere.

Then there’s Saint Mark’s Basilica, a gargantuan cathedral that stands as a testament to classical architecture and the power of the Catholic Church during the Renaissance era.

But, no matter how much culture you soak up, you can’t beat a ride on a gondola. This is what Venice was invented for.

Belin, Germany

If you’re interested in music, Berlin is the place to be. This was the hippest and most happening city in the seventies, where it played host to David Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Brian Eno and many more of the rock canon’s greatest purveyors.

Beyond that, the food in Berlin is delicious, even if you’re only grabbing a bite at a food truck. This is a must visit.
