An under the stairs makeover

No, I’m not going to go under the stairs as me and come out as Barbara Streisand, this is a post all about my attempt to be one of those bloggers who always has a beautiful collection of vintage objects effortlessly yet stylishly arranged on their mantelpiece. Except I don’t have a mantelpiece and I’m not very stylish, so it’s basically some pictures of me showing you my under stairs area* before and after I move my massive printer and hide it in Bee’s room.

I know right?? It’s going to be awesome. Hold onto you hats.

So basically I have these lovely spiral stairs, which look very pretty indeed when the light is right and you apply a good Instagram filter. See?

Nice right? Except my house is pretty small and there isn’t really anywhere to put stuff, so if you look closely you will see that under the stairs I have two printers and a nasty black IKEA table. Grim.

IMAG3808_1I gave the picture a gloomy filter to add to the feeling of under stairs despondency.

In lieu of not owning any nice furniture and not having any cash, I went to the tip. Not to throw myself into a skip in despair, but to have a rummage around their shop, where they flog all the nice things that silly people throw away. In it I found a rather lovely round table with a nice shell design on the legs, perfect for creating the illusion of vintage chic.

I shifted all the printers into a pile in Bee’s room, (Sorry Bee), hoovered all the dust from the skirting boards and gave my table pride of place. Fortunately that same day my boyfriend had sent me some flowers and, by spooky coincidence, I had bought myself a new vase that matched the flowers perfectly, so things came together rather nicely.

A couple of casually placed books to make it look like I do things other than watch TV and play patience on my phone in the evenings and tada! That’s a bit nicer isn’t it? No beautiful arrangements of winter twigs or anything, but a significant improvement.

Disclosure – I was sent the phone as a gift from Red Candy but I bought everything else myself and all words are my own.

Love that round table, my grandma had one similar, so you may have yourself a solid oak antique!
I love Ikea, but you cant beat the vintage stuff. Our market, in sunny Bridgwater has a good vintage furniture shop, the lady there restores the old stuff.
