Test your food IQ and win £50 to spend at the co-operative

This competition is now closed.

I’ve got a little competition for you today. When I was first approached about it, I have to confess that I saw the word ‘IQ test’ and immediately wanted to take part. It’s not that I’m competitive, I just like to be the cleverest. All of the time.

"Be food smart"Don’t panic though, it’s not an ordinary IQ test – this one is a food IQ quiz, to see how much you know about hidden nasties like fat and salt. Apparently 77% of respondents have scored 50% or less, so I’m sure you won’t be able to resist seeing if you can do better.*

The quiz is part of the he Government’s healthy living initiative Change4Life and the new ‘Be Food Smart’ campaign, and as an extra incentive, everyone who signs up to Change4Life gets one of these funky ‘Meal Mixer’ healthy meal planners:

If you’d like to win a meal mixer AND £50 to spend on food at the co-operative, all you have to do is take the food IQ quiz and share your score. There will be a bonus entry for liking the Slummy single mummy Facebook page and for every time you share this post.

Entry will close on 30th January and a winner will be picked at random after that date.

    I got 45% but I don’t think the test was fair because it didnt specifcy what brand any of the foods where or how much they weighed or what they were made of. E.g. Burger and chips could have been a McDonald’s burger and chips, a vegan burger with a wholemeal roll or a man vs food burger with 8 layers of cheese, bacon and onion rings. Stupid government.

    i got 75% great on sat fats, good on the other things. i think that’s through going to slimming world, you learn quite a lot about healthy choices.

    I’m slightly embarrassed to say that I got 83%. I think it was largely down to luck rather than judgement! I’ve liked your page and tweeted as My Little 3 and Me.

    I only got 42% Eek! Thankfully we prepare most food from scratch but I do drink a few cans of coke a week at work.

    58% though I have to say I think the survey is flawed, it’s very ambiguous as portion sizes, ingredients and calorific values can vary wildly depending on how something is cooked. I need to up my salt knowledge apparently.

    oops…I only got 42% but 90% of the foods in the quiz are foods we don’t eat anyway, so I have no idea of their salt / sugar content! I am already a liker on facebook :-)

    67% – but then I would have known the salt answer if they had asked for it in g and not teaspoons, especially as they don’t put it on packaging in teaspoons! and the sandwiches in my local shop have less salt than a tikka ready meal! so really it depends where you shop.

    Oh dear 67%! Apparently I’m poor on salt knowledge – quite misleading as I don’t generally buy any ready made products and rarely use salt in my own cooking. As someone else mentioned the brands of say sandwiches are not mentioned and had I made my own cheese and ham sandwich with my own bread and a thin slice of cheese, it would not have been that high in salt. The test is really only suited to people who live off factory made food.
