Simple DIY Projects to Transform Your Home Without Breaking the Bank

Do you ever look around someone’s house and see unique pieces you’d love to have in your house? Employing professional help to recreate them might improve your house’s aesthetic but will often cost a pretty penny, but don’t worry, we’re here to help.

Here, we’ve got some  DIY projects that you don’t have to be an expert artisan to do, plus you won’t have to spend hundreds of pounds on these beauties.

DIY Wall Art

You certainly don’t have to be the second coming of Van Gogh to make your art pieces. Using wall art, you can customize your home on your terms.

What You’ll Need

  • Base: You need a canvas for your art. Preferably, you’ll want a wooden board that you can frame with glass, but cardboard can also work.
  • Objects: Let your imagination run wild with this one. Your art can be anything: wiggles in bright paint, wooden shapes, seashells, or broken jewelry.
  • Adhesive: If you’re working with objects, not drawing, you’ll need a strong adhesive like hot glue to keep them in place.

Once you’ve bought your materials from trusted building merchants, lay them on your canvas. Pay attention to the orientation of your objects, and experiment with the composition until you find one you like.

Secure each object with glue, add finishing touches like paint or spray, and when you’re done, you can frame your artwork before you hang it.

Terrarium

A terrarium is a great way to bring that piece of nature into your space without having an indoor plant where you’re more likely to get soil all over your living room.

What You’ll Need

  • A glass container: Get a jar, vase, or any stylish container you can find (even a fishbowl will work. Just ensure it has a wide enough opening to access the plants easily.
  • Small Rocks: For water drainage
  • Activated Charcoal: To filter the water and prevent mold
  • Potting Mix: This blend of materials ensures your plants grow. Choose materials like sphagnum moss, perlite, potting soil, and builder’s sand to drain the water well.
  • Terrarium: Choose small, slow-growing plants like moss and ferns that thrive in humid conditions for your garden.

Clean your glass container properly with soap and water. First, lay down your gravel, then a thin charcoal layer, before adding your potting mix.

Place your plants gently in the potting mix and wet the container with a spray bottle. Seal your terrarium afterwards to create a more humid environment.

Bedside Storage

If you’ve got an old basket lying around somewhere and your bed is close to the wall, you can make a simple bed storage to keep your phone, books, and whatnot.

What You’ll Need

  • A basket: It can be old or new.
  • Paint: Optional, but you can use paint if you want to give your basket a new look
  • Mounting hardware:  Leather straps, screws, or nails that you can use to mount your basket.

Measure the height you want the basket to sit at. Drill holes if necessary, then attach the straps, ropes, or metal brackets securely to the wall using screws or nails. Hang the basket on the wall and adjust it to keep it straight.

Small Changes, Big Impact

Just apply some elbow grease and get right into it, and you can easily transform your home into a beautiful and inviting space without emptying your wallet. These simple DIY projects prove that big changes don’t always require big budgets.
