What You Must Know About Global Entry Application

When traveling to the United States, you may be required to get a global entry first. Therefore, you need to know the application process and all requirements. Here is a guide for that.

Global entry Definition

Global entry involves a United States Border and Customs protection program allowing expedited clearance for low-risk and pre-approved travelers arriving at the state. The persons who can apply for this entry include Lawful Permanent Residents, U.S. citizens, Mexican nationals, and U.S. citizens. Also, citizens from other countries trusted by Customs and Border Protection with traveler arrangements can apply.

Even though children aged 18 and below can be enrolled in Global Entry, they must have legal or parental guardianship permission. Nevertheless, minor kids without a legal guardian or a parent enrolled in Global Entry may be granted permission but must be present during the interview.

Global Entry Application

Global Entry application requires one to fill in all details and submit an online application. This application is usually made through the Trusted Traveler Program System, and you must pay an application fee of $100, guaranteeing a five-year membership. Note that this fee is non-refundable whether you get approved or not. Again, even if you are from the same family, each member must fill in an individual form regardless of age for a successful enrollment.

Typically, the Global Entry processing time for new Global Entry applicants can exceed 90 days. Besides, a critical background check must be finished to ensure all potential members qualify for expedited processing into the U.S.

Steps in the Global Entry Application Process

  • Establish an individual Trusted Traveler Program account regardless of your age.
  • Log in to the account and duly fill out the application form. At this stage, you will be required to pay a non-refundable fee of $100.
  • A CBP officer reviews your application after accepting your submitted application and fee. If your application gets approved, your Trusted Traveler Account will prompt you to plan an interview. The interview is usually held at Global Entry Enrollment Center, and each applicant gets a separate interview.
  • During the interview, an applicant must bring an identification document like an ID or driver’s license and a valid passport. For lawful permanent residents, they must produce their machine-readable permanent resident card.

Documents Required During an Interview

  • Proof that you have permission to enter the U.S.
  • Proof that you are a citizen
  • Passport
  • Driver’s license that must be valid
  • Permanent residence card for all Lawful Permanent Residents in the U.S.
  • Evidence that you reside at the address presented

Further, applicants will be required to provide more information, including;

  • Address history for the past five years
  • Vehicle information if you intend to be driving across the United States and Mexico boarders
  • An email address for creating an account
  • Five years’ employment history
  • Court documents on International Travel history for the past 5-years

After filling in and providing all the necessary documents or evidence, you should counter-check to ensure the correct information. You will then be required to answer ‘yes’ on the certification page and select next to show that you have certified.
