5 bedroom makeover tips

A guest post from Bee

Recently I moved into my first very own flat. Well, I mean, I rent it, with other people. But still. A couple of days ago I moved rooms to the best room in the house (because I’m the best, obviously) and made a start on decorating it. I put on some music and lit some incense and set about making it my own. I’ve moved house enough times now to know exactly what I want my room to look like. But if you are about to redecorate your room and don’t really know where to start, I’ve got a few extremely wise tips to share with you.
Decide how you want the space to feel

Your bedroom is a very personal thing and the way you want to feel when you are there is important when it comes to deciding how it looks. If you want your bedroom to be a place of pure relaxation, choose cool blue shades with minimal clashing patterns and no clutter; if you want it to be more romantic and luxurious, you could add an accent wall of exotically patterned wallpaper to make it all feel more glamorous.

The small things matter

Small details make a big difference to the overall look of the room. Invest in some quality throws and cushions to completely upgrade the look of your room. Make sure that even the tiniest details look nice. For example, I organised my books on my chest of drawers by most to least fictional, which was super satisfying.

Make it your own

Completely making over your room can sometimes make the room not feel like your own once you’ve finished. So, as well as putting your own style and personality in the look of the room, it’s always nice to keep some personal affects and a couple of nostalgic items. I have a little wicker chest of drawers in my room that I have had since I was born, and will probably never get rid of.

Invest in a great mattress

When giving your room a makeover, it’s not only looks that count, but what’s on the inside. Like your mattress: at the end of the day (literally), bedrooms are all about sleeping, so having the perfect mattress is one of the most important things to consider when it comes to planning your dream room.

Save money easily

If your room is in desperate need of some TLC, you don’t have to splash a lot of cash. When I first moved in to my new flat, I had to deal with these horrible ancient wardrobes taking up my whole room. But instead of spending money on brand new wardrobes, I spent a few pounds on some new door handles which made them look 100 times better with basically zero effort involved. Magic.

Lovely post! Totally agree with you on the mattress. You don’t realise how nice it is to have a good one until you experience it.
