This week we have been babysitting Baby the guinea pig while friends of ours are on their honeymoon, so in their absence we have been having a lot of fun making Baby do funny things. Belle’s favourite is to fill a little box with grass and then watch Baby try to climb in, flicking the grass into her own face as she does.
(Baby tells us she enjoys all of this hilarity, we aren’t being cruel, I promise).
Here are some of my favourites:
Guinea pigs on Twitter
One of the first things I had to do obviously was introduce the guinea pig to Twitter. She immediately seemed keen to share her thoughts with the world, but didn’t seem to understand the character limit.
Read a book
Baby is a girl, and so I thought a bit of chick lit might take her fancy? She seemed rather depressed at the thought.
Play online bingo
This could be my favourite, although I would have to be strict with the budget as you know how guinea pigs are, they get carried away, blow all their cash on the slots. Bingocams is an online bingo site with webcams, and I love the idea of Baby winning a game and the site panning to show a guinea pig at the keyboard.
Play hide and seek
Baby is not very good at this, and it would be a little bit one sided as guinea pigs can’t close their eyes, giving her a rather unfair advantage. She tried to hide under the table but I found her immediately.
Collaborative post
Awww….she’s so cute! I’m a guinea pig fanatic. I just lost my boy pig, Bay, last week. They are very, very hard creatures to take care of and too many people think of them as starter pets but they have complicated systems and need nursing when they get ill.
They can close their eyes, by the way…they just don’t do it unless they feel totally safe because they are prey animals.

Aha, I didn’t know that about the eyes! Top tip there :-)
I truly believe this could be the best post you have on this entire site. This is the sort of thing that wins an award at one of those britmums / MADs awards based on the current entries I have seen for contests like those #OHNOIDIDNT

Hi Jo,
Love reading post.
Actually this post is quite funny and one thing I would like to tell you, your Baby is so Cute!
Guinea pigs actually are so interesting and intelligent pets if you handle them correctly. As they are social they like to adapt with the environment and they do it quick. You would have a great time with them as they will hide, roll over, show their love by sound.
But as they are delicate pets so taking a good care of them is equally important. A Good care for your pets makes you “A Real Pet Parent”.
With regards,
Saurav
