Naked Angels – how to get money off decent wines

I’m going to subtitle this post ‘how NOT to look like you’d normally pick whatever was on offer at around the £6.99 mark in the supermarket, even though you’re 40 years old and should know better.’

Catchy isn’t it?

The truth is though, that despite having ‘learn more about wine’ on my mental to-do list for about the last 15 years, I haven’t quite gotten around to it. On dates, when faced with the wine list, I find myself smiling at my date coquettishly and saying ‘you choose for me’, as though it’s 1953 and I can’t possibly make a decision on my own, but really it’s just that I have no idea what’s what.

One way around this is to buy your wine online through a company that helps you to choose decent wines and provides you with information about them, so you can drop in impressive sounding key phrases at dinner parties. This option can sometimes feel too pricey though, especially if you don’t drink a lot. Surely there’s a middle ground?

There is.

(You knew I was going to say that didn’t you?)

It’s the Naked Wines ‘Angels’ scheme.

Naked Wines Angels

I was sent 6 bottles of wine to ‘test’ them, (tough job…), but I accidentally drank one bottle before I remembered to take a photo.

The Naked Wines Angels programme is a kind of crowdfunding scheme for wine, designed to benefit you, the buyer, AND the winemakers. It comes from a desire to stop wine producers having margins squeezed endlessly by supermarkets, and to give them the investment they need to produce exclusive, exciting wines.

As a Naked Angel, you put the £20 you might normally spend on wine every month into your own virtual wine piggy-bank with Naked Wines. They use the money to back talented winemakers around the world and in return you get fantastic wines at exclusive, insider prices. Angels get up to 50% off every time they order, plus a free bottle of wine every month if they order a case, so your £20 goes a lot further and buys you much better wines that you might normally be able to afford.

It’s a win win.

Or wine wine if you will.

You even get to hear a little bit about the difference the investment is making to the winemakers – a nice feeling to have as you sip your chilled sauvignon blanc.

You’re not tied into a contract, you choose what to buy and when, and you can change the amount you save, or cancel completely at any time.

The other benefit of choosing wine through Naked Wines is that you get them delivered straight to your door, so you don’t have to lug them in and out of the car boot. (Note – they won’t just randomly leave your wine on your doorstep – this whole paragraph was really just an excuse to show you my Pusheen doormat.)

Naked Wine offers

And that’s all there is to it really. There IS a waiting list, but that’s to be expected when there are such great offers to be had and if you’re anything like me then it will just make you feel more special when you do get to join the club! Even better, when you sign up via my exclusive link, you get an amazing £60 off! That’s less than £3.50 a bottle. BARGAINORAMA.

I signed up a couple of weeks ago and although I was slightly worried initially about my position in the queue, I’ve been getting regular updates as I move quickly up, so hopefully not too much longer to wait now until I get to become a Naked Angel and start seeing fantastic wines arriving regularly on Pusheen.
