The one with the scan photo

Happy New Year!

I love a bit of new year. I love setting goals and fresh starts and spring cleans and all the things that typically come with a new year. I’ve already washed the kitchen floor and cleaned the bathroom today, and I’ve not eaten a sausage roll in about 20 hours.

Although I do love Christmas, December felt a little bit overwhelming. I had a little knot in my stomach of anxiety that came and went throughout the month and I found it hard to get as excited as I usually would about list making.

(Horror! What is life without the joy of a list?)

I knew that once Christmas ticked over though, that I would feel better, and I did. I do. I have a new diary, a cool calendar, a fist-full of lists for all occasions and I’m ready for 2019, whatever it may bring.

One of the things that 2019 is set to bring is this:

grandparent blog

TADA!

No, it’s not my pregnancy scan, at least not entirely. It’s 25% me though. Come July, Bee is going to be a Mummy, and my blog is going to become, at least in spirit, Slummy Single (Grand)Mummy.

(Probably not actually in name because that’s a bit of a faff and I don’t have room on a list to action a full rebrand.)

So that’s exciting isn’t it? Just when I was questioning whether or not I could legitimately call myself a parent blog – I wrote about that here – Bee has opened up a whole new angle for me! Just as I was starting to lament never being able to go to another school nativity, (after years of wondering when I was allowed to stop), a new baby is coming along for me to dress up!

Good work Bee.

I’m seeing my grand-parenting years as the opportunity to do all the things I meant/forget to do with my own children, whilst knowing that none of the long term consequences of my actions are my responsibility. I think that’s the whole idea. I’m also considering a new Instagram account – ‘Babies dressed as food’ maybe? – for when I’m babysitting.

I’m sure Bee won’t mind if the baby goes home dressed as a taco.

What’s on your list for 2019?

Do you have any advice or experiences of being a grandparent to share with me?

Congratulations to all involved! As far as advice goes – being 44 and (step) grandmother to 7 (with another on the way, due in May I think), photos (obviously!) of you holding them, and as they get older videos of any funny little things they say and do. Oh, and the one I’m not so great at – saying no. Mine are 7 years old and under – youngest is 18 months, and due to a broken relationship my stepson lives with us, so his 6 are often at our house, and it isn’t always easy. I take the view – Nanny’s house, Nanny’s rules! Oh – and photos of relatives – one of my grandson’s is the spitting image of my husband at around the same age – I’ve shown my grandson and his twin sister a photo of my husband as a child, and asked them who is in the photo. They both say it is Hunter (my grandson)!

Most of all – enjoy the different stages – which I am sure you will do – and I look forward to the blog posts about the new arrival!
