Wait what? You CAN get lunch for free?
Why yes. Yes you can. With the Iceland bonus card.
Let me explain.
You will have realised by now, if you’re a regular reader, that I’ve become a bit of an Iceland convert, ever since I realised that Iceland was about more than frozen kebab pizzas. I’ve been educated about the benefits of frozen food in terms of freshness and not needing artificial preservatives and let’s be honest, it didn’t take much to convince me on the convenience front either.
So what is the Iceland Bonus Card then?
The Iceland Bonus Card is a savings card. You pick one up in store, register it online, and then every time you go shopping, and fancy tucking a bit extra away, you can ask the cashier to top it up. You can add money to your Bonus Card through the Iceland website too. Easy.
Then, when you’re next shopping, either in store or online, you can choose to use some or all of your balance to pay your bill. Pretty straightforward yes?
Except here’s the bonus aspect of the Iceland Bonus Card – for every £20 you save, Iceland will give you an extra pound for FREE. Just like that, automatically. Greggs sausage and bean melts are on offer at the moment in Iceland – 2 for £1 – so that bonus pound could LITERALLY buy lunch for you AND a friend.
(If you have never eaten a Greggs sausage and bean melt before then WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?? That’s the food of the Gods right there. Oysters? RANK. Greggs sausage and bean melt? HELL YES.)
What could I use my Iceland Bonus Card for?
CHRISTMAS!
Let’s say you’re hosting Christmas this year for the whole family, and you know it’s going to cost a lot, but you want to spread that cost out a bit. Why not just pop an extra £10 a week on your Bonus Card when you do your shopping between now and the big day? You’ll probably hardly notice it, but do it for eight weeks and that’s £84 to spend on Christmas treats!
Even better, for a very exclusive period, until October 29th, you can get an extra £1 for every £10 saved, just to kick start the Christmas savings! That means until October 29th, every £20 you save will earn you £3 bonus instead of £1.* That’s a pretty nice sum.
Perhaps you have a big Christmas party coming up, and you know you’re going to spend a lot of money on party food. Pop your budget onto the card now, before October 29th – let’s say £50 – and that’s £7 extra from Iceland for absolutely nothing!
And what could you do with that £7? Well, I happen to know that in Iceland at the moment you can get a tub of Ben & Jerry’s peanut butter cup ice cream for £2.50 instead of the usual £4, so you know, nearly three tubs…
I’m not trying to put ideas into your head or anything, I’m just leaving it there as a fact for your consideration.
Or maybe you’re just like me, working for yourself, without a predictable income coming in every month. The Iceland Bonus Card could be really useful for me, because when a big payment comes in I could add a big chunk of cash to the card, earn myself some free money in the process, and then have a ready made budget set aside for my food shopping for the coming month.
It’s a bit of a no brainer isn’t it?

There are other perks though, so you’re right to ask. The Bonus Card gives you access to exclusive special offers, a special treat on your birthday, and free home delivery when you shop in store and spend over £20. When I was in store last week they were also promoting a competition to win a holiday to India, exclusive to Bonus Card holders, (which has since closed I’m afraid), so I’d imagine there will be other things like that in the pipeline.
If you still need that last push to help convince you that all the cool kids are going to Iceland, picture my dinner last night – dauphinoise potatoes, peas, and Birds Eye Fish Inspirations – currently just £2 instead of £4. What’s not to love about that?

So we have 10 days to put some money away! My finances are tight at the moment, but I’m going to do this and then I know that I have rainy day shopping fund up my sleeve. I have recently discovered their ‘meals in a bag’ with a baby this is supper conveneint. 1 handed meals which are tasty and easy to make with one hand while the baby sleeps in the sling.

Oh wow thats a really good comeback in terms of what you get £1 for every £20 spend is amazing! I have to be honest and say I haven’t been to an Iceland in ages – mainly because it’s a slightly further drive to my nearest one but I do love a good bonus card and have been wanting to check out their new ranges for a while

I got new Bonus card & key Fob months ago, registered it but it didnt work, contacted Customer Services &
was asked to try again in afew days, i did so but still
nothing, called again online but thats where we are, no further forward , so rather than save me cash its actually costing me cash,,, not a happy bunny, Mr Rob Wilson .

It’s crap I don’t get anything from my bounus card and I stop almost every week
In theory it’s great bit twice now I’ve had £51 removed off my card by Iceland….technical hitch. The first time took three months to put it back and again it has gone yesterday. That’s my Christmas savings again. Absolutely fuming. Be very careful, maybe they are using our funds when their own balance is low!
