A short rant about the hairdresser where everything is £11

I’ve been wanting to write this post for a long time. Every time we drive past the £11 hairdresser I complain about it, and as it’s on the way to the station, I complain about it a lot. It has got to the point where I think my family are finding ME more annoying than I am finding the hairdresser.

(Note: it used to be the ‘everything’s £9.90’ hairdresser. That’s inflation for you.)

Hopefully after writing this, all of my frustration will dissipate, and I can drive to the station again without making anyone want to stab me.

I would start by telling you the name of the hairdresser, but it doesn’t obviously seem to have one. It might be called ‘no appointment needed’, as that is displayed in very large letters, but when you look closely at the sign, I think actually it’s called ‘Celly’s Everything’s Everything’s Everything’s £11’, which I think is a very catchy name.

£11 hairdresser

(Can you even imagine how much more upsetting this whole shop would be if they had forgotten the apostrophes?)

Okay, so far, so good. The front of the shop is covered in posters and signs celebrating the fact that everything’s £11. How simple! How straightforward! How lovely for a change to come across something that just does what it says it’s going to do – no frills, no complications.

Hoorah!

‘I could do with a quick haircut!’ you might think to yourself, ‘and £11 seems very reasonable, I’ll just pop in and see if they can take an inch or so off my just-below-shoulder-length hair!’

STOP!

If your hair is longer than shoulder length there will be a supplement, and it will not cost £11.

‘Ah, that’s a shame!’ you think to yourself, ‘as I’ve got my £11 ready, and I don’t want to carry around all this change. Perhaps I’ll get my son’s hair cut instead.’

NOOOO!

You’re still going to have a pocket full of change I’m afraid.

£11 hairdresser

Damn it!

Okay, okay, so how about if you send your husband in? He’s not a child AND he has short hair, and he just wants it clippered, so that will be £11 surely?

THINK AGAIN!

£11 hairdresser

Can you see where I’m going with this??

It wouldn’t irritate me so much if the WHOLE PRINCIPLE OF THE SHOP wasn’t based on the fact that EVERYTHING IS £11. There are signs absolutely littering the windows exclaiming the fact, and yet clearly it’s all a massive lie.

In fact, the closer you look, the harder it seems to be to find anything that IS £11.

£11 hairdresser

Even on of the posters advertising things that AREN’T £11, you aren’t even being given a genuine price.

The woman in the poster below very clearly has hair that is over shoulder length, and yet, hair model lady, I’m afraid that if you were to turn up at the ‘everything is £11’ hairdresser wanting top section highlights, don’t expect to pay £38.90 for them. Look closely at the poster and you’ll see that for the privilege of having hair longer than shoulder length, that good old surcharge is going to apply.

£11 hairdresser

It seems to me that basically, unless you are an adult woman, with a short bob, wanting nothing more than a trim, that pretty much NOTHING costs £11 at the £11 hairdresser.

Is it just me who finds this totally infuriating??

I get that having different things done at the hairdresser costs different amounts. I’m totally okay with that. I wouldn’t go to a garage that said ‘EVERYTHING’S £29!’ because I know that a new clutch costs more than £29.

THAT’S OKAY.

And that’s what makes it so much more annoying, because the whole principle of the damn thing is so unnecessary.

I shouldn’t worry though, because as the last poster I look at tells me, I will always be welcomed in a professional and courteous manner, and can enjoy freely available refreshments and magazines.

Oh, ‘and still everything is just £11.00.’

(Except it’s not.)

Jo being a hairdresser myself I find the highlights package (12foils) £29.90 and the colour package (11foils) £38.90 very odd and annoying pricing. I’m confused, your paying £9 for one extra foil at the end of the day, exact same service being provided.

I had my 5yr olds hair trimmed it took about 3 minutes as it was just the whispi ends as she is growing it. No wash just a dry trim which I was charged £11. I think that is a rip off for a child’s trim

        I don’t work at Cellys
But I am a hair stylist
You think just because it’s a child’s hair cut should be less
Guess what if it was me I would charge you 50 pounds us children something are more of a problem
        Then an adult to cut
People like you don’t realize the stress it puts a stylist threw to deal with a child on our chair
And your complaining about paying 11 pounds
The I suggest you cut your child’s hair

My wife who had her hair ruined there was told by the person responsible (the stylist) that all stylists are on 14 hour contracts and paid cash in hand no NI or PAYE to be paid and there is always a queue at the Herts one she visited.

I am not sure how they would get away with that There is no way a business so obvious as this as it not exactly someone working from their home where they could go unnoticed these salons are franchises of a big company there is no way they would be able to pay every single one of their employees cash in hand and not one of them pay a penny in tax! Not only with the business be in all sorts of trouble employee who played no national insurance or tax for however many years they work there would have a hell of a lot to answer for, this cannot be true!

I visit my local salon and they clearly display prices my hit is just below should length and I am only charge £11 for a cut and only £11 for root touch up on my colour which is average price for a hairdresser.

Argh, that’s so irritating and exactly the sort of thing that would wind me up every time I went past it! Reminds me of a sunbed shop I use to drive past, with a sign up saying “Half price sunbeds AT ALL TIMES!” … Well if it’s at all times, it’s not half price then is it? That’s just HOW MUCH IT COSTS!
(This was over ten years ago and as you can see it still winds me up a tad)

This has just provided me with much amusement and ragement for the last 10 minutes of leisurely reading and examining the pics. Hysterical!
Please can you actually go in and get a list of everything that is £11? Just in case I’m anywhere near Taunton and they happen to do a whole head of highlights for £11? In fact, I’d almost be able to travel down from Surrey and still save money on my normal ‘do for that… go on.
Next post from inside the salon?!

  13. 15 April, 2017 / 5:16 pm

Ha, this would drive me mad also! As they advertise everything is 11 pounds, I would request foils cut blowdry and finish be 11 pounds, otherwise its false advertising!! See, already winding me up…haha!

i hunk thebonly way they could putt that off wasnif everything cost £11 individually – so the cut is £11 and the colour is £11 and the wash/blow dry is £11 so the total is £33.

Except none of the prices are multiples of 11 so yeah,, they’re just lying. *rage*

  17. 28 April, 2017 / 4:43 pm

i think the only way they could pull that off was if everything cost £11 individually – so the cut is £11 and the colour is £11 and the wash/blow dry is £11 so the total is £33.

Except none of the prices are multiples of 11 so yeah,, they’re just lying. *rage*

We have one of these in our city centre. I went in and had 3 things, should have been £33 in total, my bill was £48 because my hair was long even though I was going to a short bob. They also charged me for dying longer hair then cutting it off.

I find this funny, but at the same time strange since the branch near me did me a trim for less than £10. Dunno if they charged me for a child’s cut or adult’s (i’m 19, 4’11, and quite small so probably a child’s). It is super inconsistent though!!

I had a wash and cut today and expected to pay £11.00. They charged me an extra £3.00 for a two minute blow dry and that waa only to make sure it was even…. (which I am not normally charged for). I very reluctantly gave a tip but reduced it. Somehow that action justified the extra charge

If you want a big laugh try getting their head office phone number, as they have 44 shops throughout the UK( all franchised) and apparently instructed not to give out the head’s office number ( I wonder why). It’s interesting all the price discrepancies, and the fact they seem only deal in cash. Must be a nightmare filling out those tax returns!?.Or finding a bank that is still open to pay it all in to.

I have been to cellos in gravesend Kent when I go to visit my daughter.and I can not complain about the service I paid 29.99.for cut base colour, and highlights.i have been back 3 times since.and never had a problem.so don’t knock it till you try it.i have paid 90£ to get the same treatment.and do the same job.even better if you ask me .so I wouldn’t knock it till you try it.i do rate these shops.i came across these comments as I was looking for 1 nearer to where I live.after reading them I would still go there.

I popped into this shop (curiosity got the better of me!), and an assistant cut my hair. I had noticed that a wash is included in the £11 charge. The hair wash was excellent, the cut was very good! I decided I
did not want to pay an extra £11 for my hair to be blow dried! So left with a hair cut after a very good wash for £11. I did have to wait, but having said that, when I go to other hairdressers (wash, cut, foils), ending up with a bill of £70 (ish), most times I have to wait later than my appointment time!

l get your frustration but l’ve been to my local Cellys lots of times and had an excellent cut for £11. 11 foils of highlights are a further £11. The hairdressers are very good, far better than at more expensive places I’ve been to.

I’ve been to the one in Hemel Hempstead an had roots done for £11 and an ok coffee. The staff were nice and I took note of other peoples hair cuts etc. They were all good. I’m going back to try a trim this week, so wish me luck.

Went in today asked about the highlights package includes 12 foils, wash ,cut, blow dry
Were told it would be £11 extra as my hair was long also the 12 highlights would only cover my parting.
Then she said we are short of staff today and I haven’t had my lunch break.
She may as well said get lost I don’t want your custom ! How rude !
They need training in customer service !!!
Don’t waste your time and money go somewhere else!

I had a trim here and it really wasn’t very good. Took 5 minutes. She just hacked a bit off the back. No attempt to style or shape. I said I was trying to grow out layers but she could have nipped off the ends. And I had to wait nearly an hour. No one warned me and I was not offered tea or coffee. Really not worth £11 – I will not be back.

  30. 25 March, 2019 / 10:36 pm

What drives me batty is when I have to come in for a consultation who then decide which level of stylist I need to see. It’s never the cheaper cut that I’ve been hooked in with by the advertising.

  31. BERNADETTE LONG
    10 May, 2019 / 5:43 pm

I have just left the Crawley shop. I have been going there for two years and get each (blow dry, highlights, colour roots) for £11.00.each so £33.00 not bad. Suddenly, I have been told my hair is thick and have enough of it for two people so she wanted to charge me £24.00 I asked her why she is always upping the price as the other girls do not do that. I asked her did she want to lose a customer, she could not care less and said the products were expensive as she was pulling up my hair. I walked out in disgust!

The main reason is, the same lady that told me my highlights (11 foils) that should have been £12.00 were £24.00 the last time I was there and I actually paid!! She said the highlights were £24.00 because she had to do the whole strand from head to bottom. My hair is only shoulder length!

Anyway, be warned. She is the oldy who told me she loves her job! Just made me wonder what on earth she gets out of adding an extra £12 for the one job.

Point is adverts are misleading and no doubt goes against trading standards!!!!!!!!!

Celly’s Hairdressing Salons are absolutely the pits, don’t go there I recommend to anybody because a few days ago not only I asked to have my hair cut as well as a full head colour but got refused a hair colour
so I didn’t even bother in the end, just let alone to have my hair cut, they refused to colour my hair not only just on this occasion just gone so I tried asking them that if I was to go ahead with the hair cut could I come back to have my full head tint another time but they still wilfully refused to colour my hair ever full stop altogether, I am still full of anger and frustration over just talking about my absolute rubbish experience to how I was treated, this was the Branch in Hove, East Sussex, UK. The hair dressing staff who aren’t English really treat the English people like dirt and it is not on. No decent hair dressing salon behaves like that. Celly’s the Business doesn’t even deserve to be in business and trade also because of having read other people’ s comments I think they are very dishonest, very rude, very unkind, very mean and the attitude of the Celly’s staff is not only the worst ever I have come across, it is the pits and they really are totally undeserving of even being in business if that’s how the choose to play it they deserve to lose all their clients as they are just playing games with a clients mind, I really feel as if their act is so criminal and cruel enough to refuse to do a head tint for christs sake. It is perfetic, childish and extremely provoking, I felt provoked and I lost my temper. I am so angry about Celly’s I could go and paint the town red instead as I really felt my face doesn’t fit with Celly’s. Enough said.

My mum an I had gone to Cellys in Harlow a few times over a few years and I had notice they had charged a little extra then the package deals they advertise when I asked why they would say about the length of my hair.. I went to Cellys Harlow in June I explained and showed the hairdresser 3 pictures of exactly how I wanted the cut, and colour but came out with a completely different style. Somehow he managed to do everything opposite to the pictures ie I asked for a long fringe and ended up with a fringe above my eyebrows!!! I asked for a long inverted bob and I came out with it long at the back and short at the front and instead of blonde highlights framing my face and a couple of sun kissed slices through the back I ended up with a full balayage. Considering I actually explained in full detail and showed 3 pictures it is disgusting that ended up wiv it all backwards I was pissed soon as he cut my fringe then when he showed me what he had done to the back I knew I needed to just get out of there before I lost my temper because I was livid.. To add insult to injury this disaster cost me £105!!!!!!! I had to go to the bank get some more money as I expected to pay for the £69.99 package they advertise but somehow ended up being charged an extra £35. When I got back he was sitting by the till see me got up walked off started fiddling with someone’s hair left me standing there 5 minutes came back took the £110 said thanks sat there didn’t give me my change, I was shocked and totally embarrassed I just left, pissed off and so frustrated I was near to tears.. I always leave a tip but that is for me to decide not for him to decide and just take it..

I waited a week before I called in to complain because to be perfectly honest, I was still livid at what he had done to my hair and knowing my reaction I knew I had to wait until I had calmed down. When I called the salon i spoke to the Manager (Katie) she was really apologetic, listened to what I had to say, I told her I would never go back in there again and I meant it because why would anyone go back but she assured me that she had already fired Lee because they had noticed what he was doing as he had done this to many other Customer’s, I was thinking hold on so your telling me you knew what he was doing and just let it carry on…!!!! Katie then told me she would never stop apologising and to come in so she can rectify what he had done.

I went to the salon several times but always got the same answer it was full I said there only 5 people sitting here, again the reply was always the same there are 7-8 other names down who are shopping, but you have said your not allowed to leave once your name is down..!! They chop your hair and the rules according to how they feel that day or who there talking to.. It’s so poorly run it’s a joke..!! When I did finally get to see Katie she looked at my hair and had the audacity to tell me technically he has done nothing wrong but it’s not what you asked for. Yes and isn’t that why you fired him?? I never mentioned technic because why would I, its not about technic its about the sheer ignorance that he did what he wanted to my hair completely ignoring the style and colour I asked for… She then said we can either do this in 2 stages, first the color because obviously there is nothing that she can do about a fringe that was cut 2 inches too short or I could go back in 6 months have it done in one go. I asked if she could just sort out the colour, along came more excuses basically she wanted me to just come back in 6 months.. I told her I didn’t want to wait that long she said ok but I can’t do it now, I said I’ll come in tomorrow morning 1st thing as I have hospital appointment at 11:30 if I’m seen at 9am would it be done in time for appointment she said yes of course.. I drive the 40min it takes me, got in the queue at 8.15. Was called over at 9.05 I showed her the same pictures I showed before of the colour just Incase she didn’t understand what I was saying, I know she knows what’s going on but they all play dumb act like they don’t communicate.. She then started talking about cutting my hair above my shoulders even though I only mentioned the colour.. You really have to be firm in speaking to them otherwise they just take full advantage of you then do what they like to your hair then you get stung with an extra £30-£50 on top.. I asked her just do the colour please I dont want to lose any more length Thank You.. Next thing she’s telling me how much it’s going to cost she knew full well what had happened and why I was back there.. Even so I explained Katie told me you were going to rectify the mistakes Lee had made. Katie wasn’t in until 10 so she called her gave the phone to me. Katie basically denied everything that she had said to me a few weeks previous, I was extremely shocked and started getting frustrated because she was going on an on lying then saying i have to pay because technically it was ok she wouldn’t let me get a word in so I stared raising my voice as did she, she then had the cheek to tell me I was unprofessional (What a f*$ing Joke me unprofessional) then she hung up on me, I have never met such a rude person, especially coming from a so-called manager. This behavior showed me what spiteful bitches they are that this was premeditated giving people the run around taking the piss out of people causing unnecessary upset.. The manager knows I live 40min away so would have had to leave home 730 to get there early enough to assure I get seen 1st as she also knew I had a 11:30 hospital appointment which is why I didn’t mind going back for the forth time as I had to be in Harlow anyway.. Only to be treated that way.. To make matters worse, anyone could see I was getting in a state because of such poor treatment being accused of all sorts by the manager being told I’m a unprofessional lier having the phone put down on me, then as I got up to leave one of the stylists came and put her hand on my arm and said “get out”, I asked her if she was going to physically remove me, she looked me up and down knowing she didn’t stand a chance even if she wanted to, so she said of course not I just laughed at her and walked out..

I’ve been sending emails to a number of different addresses and get a reply thank you for your feedback well get back to you.. Four mtgs later haven’t heard a thing and that’s the end of that.. I’ve called branch in Kent they tell me that’s so bad I didn’t think Kate like that she always so nice to me, when I ask for Headoffice she Change the subject and gave me fake email

I have not been in a saloon for a very long time and I was pleasantly surprised, it was fun. Very pleased with result….. I don’t have many demands as just need trim every 5 weeks and no one is going to get rich from my requirements. It seems to me it is easy to upset people these days, there are many people pleased with the service and they for what ever reason don’t get round to reviews in favour because it is a hair cut…if they don’t like it they don’t go back.

I go to either the Boscombe or Winton branch and have always been pleased. I just have a wash and cut. The list of prices is clearly displayed on the window for everyone to see if they take the trouble to read it.

I usually use the one in worthing but as I happened to be in Brighton I though ok il try this. The staff member was awful she asked me what I wanted, I replied a trim, she said oh anything then, after my cut she said , oh its shorter on one side, what would you like me to do, to my horror I said make it right, I came out with shorter than expected hair and upset. I mentioned this to my usual hairdresser in worthing, she was very good and told the manager of cellys who happened to be there that day, so I hope this was resolved never again the shop was awful and messy as well should of gone with my gut but was desperate for a haircut.

I used the one in Brighton . Had a lovely guy so my hair, he couldn’t have been nicer. I’m thinking of going to the Crawley one next week. I’ll do a review on here

I’ve just written a similar and probably worse review about them on Google. They’ve damaged my scalp when applying hair dye due to being so rough and going over my scalp before spreading it over my hair. They also charged me twice for the whole thing (roots) because they had to redo it, they didn’t get the colour right the first time and in fact the second time either but it was such a bad experience for me and very painful that I couldn’t address it because it’d cost me lots of anxiety. I paid £65 in total for roots and half wet hair. They should shut down this sh**hole.

Have been going to Cellys New Milton for three years where I have a package. Always a good cut, colour excellent. A nice coffee. The price is explained clearly before starting the procedure. What is there to complain about. My old hairdressers price is nearly double Celly’s.

I went today to Celly in Brighton. Avertised £16 each service. I choose one for £45 which includes, root colour, wash & cut and blow dry. They couldn’t match the color of my hair so they suggested to have full head color to which I agreed My hair is less tgen then 2″over the shoulder. I was charged £78.
I am really unhappy with the price because it wasn’t my fault thatthey couldn’t match the color.
What it bothers me the most is that thetake “cash only” no credit card. I wonder how much of it they declare for tax purpose?

Yes, this would drive me mad, also! As they advertise everything is 11 pounds. Finding a hair salon like this is much more difficult. More info at: https://www.davidrozman.co.uk
