Mum’s List – a story of love and hope

Mum's List DVDI had a bit of a moment last week.

I watched the trailer for Mum’s List, which is released on DVD today. I got about 40 seconds in before I had goosebumps all over and tears in my eyes. I actually just got goosebumps again then, typing that sentence.

I dare you to watch it now and not feel moved, knowing that it is based on a true story:

What did I tell you?!

If you really want to finish yourself off, (which is what I’ve just done), then have a read of this feature in the Guardian, which is all about the real life events that the film is based on.

As a parent, I think it would be difficult to hear the story and not imagine it happening to you. I’m a very positive person and good at living from one day to the next, not thinking much about the bad stuff that happens in life, but no matter how much we want to pretend it doesn’t, sad, awful, heartbreaking stuff happens to people all the time. Every day. And perhaps sometimes we need to think about it, even if it’s just to acknowledge it, or learn from it, or hear a positive story and know that if the worst did happen, you wouldn’t break.

(God, I got quite emotional writing that – is that what I do? Do I bury my head in the sand for fear of breaking? I think we’d better pack that thought up for another day.)

Anyway…

*cough*

Where was I?

Oh yes, Mum’s List comes out on DVD today, so if you’re looking for a film about love, friendship, family, loss, happiness and everything in between then buy your copy now. Although it’s a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, it is ultimately a story of strength in the face of adversity, about how to stay strong, even when it might feel like your world is falling apart. It would make a lovely gift for Mother’s Day, to show the importance of family, or for a film night at home with friends.

(Just make sure you have the wine handy.)

Buy your copy of Mum’s List now on DVD from Amazon or via iTunes.

I need to watch this film, not just because a few of my friends were in the roller disco scene but also because I hear it’s a very god film. Added to the list!
