5 non crap Valentine’s Day gift ideas

It’s nearly Valentine’s Day, which means it’s time for a little flashback to the Love Log.

Do you remember the Love Log?

I think it was the funniest thing anyone has ever written to me about. Please go and have a read if you haven’t already, or even if you have. It warrants a second visit.

Back now? Good.

Because you really DO NOT want to buy your loved one a Love Log, (unless you are doing it as a way to get out of being in a relationship with them), and because you want something better than a teddy bear holding a satin heart saying ‘Be Mine’, – whatever is your reason, I’m sure it all comes down to finding a non-crap valentines day gift for your loved one. Lucky you for getting in here as I already did a fine job for you.–…I’ve picked out a few…

Champagne flutes

This range of LSA glass is my very favourite ever. I have the tumblers, wine glasses and these champagne flutes and I have given various sets as gifts. They are really affordable (only £29 for four at Red Candy) but they look more expensive than that, which is a key consideration when choosing a gift. Give with a bottle of champagne for extra loveliness.

A good leather belt

I would never in a million years think to buy a belt as a gift at any time of the year, but Fiancé assures me that a good leather belt is an ace Valentine’s Gift for a man. He suggests this one from Tom Lane at Not On The High Street.

A date night

Because it’s the thought that counts isn’t it? If you have kids then the absolute ultimate gift is to arrange everything, so the entire night is stress free for your partner. This includes babysitting, food, activities – everything! For bonus marks, stock up the fridge with orange juice and bacon, ready for breakfast the next morning.

LSA decanter

I don’t drink whisky but I LOVE decanters. To me they just say ‘grown-up decadence’ like nothing else. (Apart from having a gardener.) This is another LSA one, (what can I say? I’m a fan), but this one is from the House of Fraser glass collection. I especially like the wooden base on this one.

Gadget tidy

One option is to go for a gift that has a bit of a practical use as well as looking nice. I know it’s a bit geeky, but I really like this wooden tablet and remote control store from STORE, A Place for Everything. It might not be the most romantic of gifts, but I would genuinely get a lot of happiness from arranging my remote controls in this.

I was sent the remote control stand and pastel champagne flutes for the purposes of this post. All views my own.
