7 Beautiful front doors

I am feeling hormonal today.

It’s probably more information than you need, but I don’t care, you’ve got it now. (That’s the sort of mood I’m in. I’m making a frowny face at the screen right now.)

Hormones, just in case you are a man and don’t know about these things, are chemicals created by some kind of devil being, designed to take what you thought was a perfectly nice life, and shake it around a bit in a big can of mud, until you are so cross and sad and confused that you don’t know what’s happening any more, or why you’re even mad.

*Makes sulky grunting noise*

Eating half a bar of Christmas spiced chocolate didn’t work, so I thought I’d spend a little bit of time looking at my favourite door pictures from Instagram. I don’t know about you, but when I look at pictures of beautiful front doors, I find it very hard to feel sad.

Like this one.

When I saw this door in London this morning I was drawn to the fanlight above the door. I’m pretty sure that this door is trying to tell me something in code – BATMAN LIVES HERE.

Or how about this one? Yellow is one of my favourite colours for a door, and this one was taken in Clifton in Bristol, which also happens to be one of my favourite places. I actually smiled looking at it. You can’t help but feel a little bit sunnier looking at a yellow door.

This is one of my very favourite front doors. It’s just around the corner from me, and I walk past it pretty much every day. I love the way the windows mirror the shape of the doors, and there is something about the way the plants are growing around it, that gives it an air of mystery and security, both at the same time.

Plus the bench. It’s like the owners are saying ‘yeah, we know are front door is ace, that’s why we have a bench here, so we can sit and admire it.’ I’d definitely have that bench if that were my door.

Church doors are always beautiful.

I think there’s a bit of a common misconception that churches are a bit boring, but there is nothing that I find nicer than stopping for a nose around a village church, ideally on the way to and/or back from a nice cream tea somewhere. This blue church door is actually in the middle of Taunton, (where I live), and yet a lot of local people can’t guess where.

This is one of my favourites because as I got ready to take this one, the house’s owner came out, and I went a bit pink and had to say ‘er, do you mind if I take a picture of your door?’

Every time I go to London I try to find a new mews to explore. Often you find them in the most unexpected of places, and they are like a little oasis of peace and calm in a busy city.

And this one. Well, this one is pink. Dur.

Perfect description of hormones. Mine give me hell a lot of the time, even when I’m not meant to be particularly hormonal. GLARGH.

What gorgeous doors. I love them! My old house had a yellow front door that made me so cheerful. The house now is in a zone where everyone has to stick to the same few colours which irks me no end. I’d love to paint it bright. Instead, we’re making do with a silly door knocker and a giant Japanese kite outside.

There really is something about a good door! I have a similar obsession – look out for a slew of door pictures coming your way on IG this week when we hit Florence – those Italians love a good old door! x

I absolutely love pretty front doors – they just draw you in and I always wonder who lives behind them! I also love interesting door knockers such as brass Lions. Such a beautiful collection
