How to earn at least £700 a month from home, even if you’re a lazy bones

Today I welcome back Jon from The Money Shed. Jon has written a couple of popular posts for me already – one about earning money from home without having to go near a survey, and another guide to matched betting, and today Jon has a few motivational words for you. I know for a fact that he recently went to America on his earnings from these work-at-home jobs, so he knows what he’s talking about.

I chose this image especially for Jon as I know he’s a big fan of my cheesy stock pictures

Whether you are a stay-at-home parent or you work full time you probably feel that you’re pretty busy. It can be very easy to convince yourself that you have a lot on your plate and no time to take on anything else. Frankly this is untrue.

Watching daytime TV or spending half your work day on your mobile phone is NOT being busy. It may feel important, at the time, as you’re desperate to know what the DNA results are, but you could be putting your time to much better use.

Earning extra money online is one of the most common ways to boost your income now. I’m sure, like most, you have seen those inspirational quotes and spammy adverts. You could be making £5000+ a day for 15 minutes work, or so people at the top of the MLM pyramid would have you believe. You could be spending your day updating your Facebook status from your laptop on a beautiful beach somewhere. You could also be spending your day having your personal details sold on to third parties and fielding phone calls about PPI reclaims and personal injury compensation.

With so many spam filled adverts and posts online it is easy to see why some people are sceptical about earning online. Naysayers will frequently share their opinions on making money online and how everything is a scam. While there are scams out there you can also find genuine opportunities that are tried and tested by other people. As long as you have some basic common sense it is possible to boost your earnings from the comfort of your own home. While you may not be sitting on that sandy beach, overlooking the crisp blue ocean, you can at least be at home, in your pyjamas, making some cash while you enjoy the latest must watch car crash TV.

Now there is absolutely nothing wrong with relaxing at home, in your free time. However, if you knew that you could be using some of that free time to improve your quality of life, and your finances, then why wouldn’t you?! It is absolutely possible to make yourself extra money without spamming your Facebook friends, cold calling people or sending out letters. You can also avoid some of the more well known work from home jobs of old such as assembling cardboard boxes, loading up your spare room with unbranded cosmetics or talking dirty to someone else’s husband on your landline.

There are hundreds of legitimate opportunities online when it comes to making yourself extra money. Steer clear of any of the ‘get rich quick’ spiel and be realistic that you will need to dedicate time to finding what works best for you. There are probably no legal methods out there that will allow you to have £1000s in your bank account in minutes, short of a lottery win, however, it is possible to be earning at least £700 a month. You can achieve this even if you have a full-time job, young children or you are just a little unmotivated and lazy!

With the pitfalls of modern life it can be easy to make excuses as to why you can’t get something done. Procrastination is almost a national pastime in the UK now. We are all guilty of telling ourselves that we don’t have time to complete chores or ring a friend. However – EXCUSES WON’T BUY YOU A NEW CAR! Whining about being short on time won’t help you take your family on a well deserved holiday this year. Even if you only have a few hours to space each day, or even each week, you can make yourself a nice chunk of change online.

Okay, first of all I need to vent…

I am a stay-at-home mum and I DO NOT watch daytime TV all day. The fact that you presume this is what all stay-at-home mums do drives me mad! I have always hated daytime tv and I’m sure there are many other women (and men) out there that would be annoyed by that statement.

    Vent over…

As for your other point, it does sound like you know what you’re talking about and dedicating a little time every day to something like that might be a good idea. After all there’s only so much TV you can watch right?

Haha! You tell him Morgan. He’s always bossing me about trying to get me to earn more money – let’s put him in his place ;-) He does know what he’s talking about with the other bits though.

I’ve just wasted 5 minutes of my life reading this dross – it tells me absolutely nothing! Explain exactly what kind of work you are talking about and how that makes you £700 a month?

For me I always weigh up what my time is worth. I used to do mystery shopping and it would be an hour of travelling, doing the shop, writing a report and that would earn me £10. When I needed the cash for bills that was absolutely worth my while. When I wanted to save for a holiday, actually I felt that an hour relaxing after work and spending quality time with my partner was more valuable to me than £10. Decide what your time is worth. Now I do matched betting and I can earn £10 in a few minutes. I don’t have to leave the house, and seeing my profit jump £800+ in a single month is really inspiring. It CAN be done!

I have to agree with this post, well not about the TV part as I don’t even watch live TV (don’t pay the licence) but I was terrible for wasting my time elsewhere like Facebook. I now use that time to look for ways to make more money or for one of the ways I already earn – at the end of the day, more cash in the bank means more pretty things which in turn are more fulfilling than hours of staring at moaning status updates.

Where are these legitimate opportunities?? I haven’t been able to find anything other than surveys and selling beauty/ health products!

    • 13 March, 2016 / 2:04 pm

      Hey Shelley!

Jo linked to two of my previous posts that I have written for this blog at the very top of the post.

One post alone has an easy £500+ you can earn a month from

Then I have also written a guide to doing Matched Betting which is the second post she has linked to. Infact Jo herself has done Matched Betting so it’s all good ;)

That’s an easy £1000+ a month from MBing alone and is RISK FREE and best of all for fellow Self employed folks is 100% TAX FREE as well!

I have to say I don’t think the premise of the blog is that a SAHM is lazy. It seems a dramatization to get a point across. I read this blog and re-evaluated my current situation. In 10 days I have made over £150 now. I have hardly changed anything. Just made better use of some of those awkward moments like cooking tea – what can we do while waiting for the kettle to boil! I was really surprised at how quickly things totted up. So glad I found this post. It gave me a much needed push in the right direction again! Well done Jon!

Still none the wiser. Had to read the blog one bit at a time as this Instagram and is in the way even as I type this comment.

Do we need any special skill for that? Earning at home and that’s is for lazy bone. I must follow your guideline. Thanks
