Join me in February for the Great British Budget challenge

How is your cash flow looking this month? A little peaky after all that Christmas extravagance?

There’s a lot of talk in January about losing weight, getting fit and doing wholesome yet sometimes tedious things like spending Quality Family Time together, (yawn), but how many of use are brave enough to get the credit card bills out from behind the bread bin and take on the challenge of tackling our finances?

If you want to get your pennies in order, why not join me during February for the Great British Budget campaign?

Great British Budget

The idea behind the campaign is simple – to get people budgeting, saving and generally feeling in control of their finances. It could be that you want to get your head around your direct debits, or maybe you have something special to save up for? I’m keen to get involved as my 40 things to do before I’m 40 list is going to set me back a bob or two and I really do want to make everything on the list happen. It’s not going to though if I keep accidentally spending all my money on magazines and sweets.

The thing about budgeting though is that on its own it can feel a little bit dull, so the secret is to have positive and exciting goals.

“Ooh yes, I saved 9% on my gas bill this year by turning the heating down by one degree!”

Not very sexy is it? Try this though:

“Ooh yes, I took a trip on the Orient Express this year and solved a murder mystery whilst wearing a fabulous wool hat, because I put a budget in place and saved tonnes of cash!”

Better?

I have the hat already. Murder on the Orient Express here I come.

Disclosure – I am not being paid in any way to promote this campaign, I just think it’s an excellent idea. When I went to meet the team behind the Great British Budget though they did give me a very lovely slice of carrot cake, which may or may not count as compensation…
