Birthday and Christmas present ideas that make a difference

This is a guest post from Must Have Gifts, part of World Vision UK. I did not receive payment for this post. I sponsor a child through World Vision and visited Ethiopia with them earlier this year so it’s a cause that is close to my heart.

If you have family or friends with a birthday in November or December it can often be a challenge to find a great present that means something but that doesn’t stretch the bank balance too much just before the expensive festive season. Thankfully, there are lots of charity gifts ideas from Must Have Gifts that can make a difference to other people’s lives as well as celebrating a special occasion.

What are charity gifts?
These are gifts that range from maize for a field through to re-building a roof for a clinic. A gift is brought online and donated straight to the community and the person you are buying for receives a card detailing the gift that has been made in their name.

A gift that doesn’t sit on the shelf
A charity gift of a mosquito net, a kid goat or chickens really makes a difference to children and the communities they live in. This would probably beat another pair of socks or a tie for that family member you are just sure what to buy.  These gifts improve lives as families can get produce from the animals and sell any excess, generating income.

I’m not sure what to buy
Any gift you buy will make a difference and be appreciated but if you have friends or family in these professions why not purchase a charity gift that they might resonate with?

Farming and agriculture
Farmers and those who rely on their land to make an income will understand how weather can destroy or help your precious crop. Selling their crop is what brings in the income so maize seeds for sowing, an ox plough or tools that a farmer can use would make a great charity gift.

Animal lovers
We have all seen the joy on our own children’s faces when a new dog, cat or furry friend arrives in the family home. For all those animal lovers out there, why not share that joy and donate a goat, chickens or even a guinea pig?

Parents
These family members can often be hard to buy for as they appear to have everything they need, but all parents will appreciate how raising young children can bring its own set of fears, elation and general worry.  A gift donated on their behalf that can improve a child’s education or even save their life is a valuable gift indeed.

If you are still stuck for birthday gift ideas, a gift for a special occasion or even getting Christmas gifts early then why not think about a charity gift and have a look at Must Have Gifts online for some inspiration?

Great post! I’m all for charity gifts, from all sorts of sources. Problem is, lots of my family wouldn’t enjoy receiving a charity gift. I do give them when I can and also ask to receive them.

I like charity gifts and have given and received a few of them. If you want some, thing a little closer to home, one the I got recently was a new tree planted in my name. I got to choose the variety and location of the tree and a dedication to go with it. I had a pine planted in Scotland that I dedicated to “decreasing world suck”.

This post generated a click through to my blog and I can’t see where or how. Very odd.
    Great post though.
