What’s on your fridge?

They say that you can tell a lot about a person by having a rummage through their bathroom cabinet, but if you want to be a little less creepy, I reckon that having a look at their fridge can do just as well.

I like my fridge. I spend a lot of time wanting to open it and eat treats, so I have tried to cover the front with things I like – things that might hopefully distract me and make me forget why I was there in the first place.

Here it is:

What's on your fridge?

So, what is all this nonsense?

Well, there are the obligatory vouchers I’ll never remember to spend and recipes I won’t ever cook, but we all have those, so let’s start top left with Barn the Spoon. I cut this out of the Guardian magazine a few years ago because I loved Barnaby’s attitude to life. You probably can’t read it, but this is a man who basically lives in a small hut and carves spoons for a living.  “For most of the year,” he says, “I live in the woods and carve spoons from green wood with axes and knives. I’ve been doing woodwork my whole life. I love it. I knew that I wanted only to carve spoons and that I wouldn’t have much money. Living in the woods was the only way I could do it and be in charge of my life.”

Can you even imagine having such a passion that you will do anything to pursue it? I love this story as a reminder that life really isn’t about how much money or stuff you have, but about doing something that makes you happy.

In the top right hand corner is a picture of Eyerus. Eyerus is six years old and lives in Ethiopia. She is the child that I sponsor through World Vision. After visiting Ethiopia in March this year I couldn’t not doing something. Unlike a lot of those ‘give a villager a goat’ campaigns, child sponsorship through World Vision is a very personal thing and every single relationship is one-to-one. No one else will have a picture of Eyerus on their fridge. I will be sponsoring her for 15 years and hope to be able to visit her too.

In the middle is a picture of Belle when she was about a year old eating a sandwich that is too big for her face, let alone her mouth. Just above it is a picture of a fish that we think looks like Belle. You wouldn’t think to look at her now, but when she was little she had the chubbiest cheeks you have ever seen. We used to call her Fatty Chops.

Just below that is a postcard from a wildlife photography exhibition that we saw at Bristol Museum. When I first saw these penguins I laughed out loud. Every time I went back to look at the photo I laughed again. I am laughing a bit now just remembering it.

In the bottom left corner is the set of Stickygram fridge magnets we had made to celebrate finding all 80 Gromits in Bristol this summer. You create them by linking up to your Instagram account. They are pretty cool.

So, what’s on your fridge? I’m going to tag a few people to see if they fancy baring their souls, but if you want to blog about it, tweet me a picture, or pop something up on Instagram or Facebook that would be fantastic!

I’m going to tag Mama Owl, Capture By Lucy, I Am Typecast, Lilinha Angel and Tigerlilly Quinn.

We don’t really have anything on our fridge! I am feeling very left out about that! Think I will have to change it now, and make my fridge very exciting! Watch this space xx

My fridge is soooo busy! Hardly any room left as it is brimming with ‘artwork’ from my 3 year old – nice and colorful though :)

Excellent post idea – just when I was stumped for today’s pic.

I’d love to join in with this but we have an integral fridge and the freezer has nothing on it! If you’d have asked me 15 years ago, it would have been a different story. Love those little stickygram magnets though!

I think your fridge is cute!
Also Why haven’t I thought of putting my coupons on the fridge? I might actually remember them once in awhile if I did that!! Right now my fridge is only covered in my kids art work!
    Coupons are going on!
