Have yourself a merry John Lewis Christmas

Nothing says Christmas to me like a potter around John Lewis.

It’s just lovely isn’t it? So NICE. It makes you feel all smiley and like you want to have the grandchildren round to bake cookies with, even though you don’t have grandchildren yet. And I’m not just saying this because a lovely man called Dominic gave us a tour of our local John Lewis last night, or because I’ve got a little John Lewis competition for you, although both of those things are true, and very nice too.

We were met at the store, and signed in, and Bee and Belle were very excited about getting to wear visitor badges. Simple things. In fact Bee was very sad at the end when she had to give it back, having been intending to ‘accidentally’ wear it to her boyfriend’s house the next day, so she could impress his parents with an ‘Oh silly me, I forgot to take my John Lewis visitor badge off!’

As we went down the escalators into the Christmas decoration section I actually had butterflies in my tummy, even before I’d seen the giant LED TV that was like looking out of an Actual Window. “Oooh, I feel all excited just looking at it!” I exclaimed, sounding much like a toddler coming face to face with Actual Father Christmas. It was so pretty though, and all my favourite peacocky colours.

Come on, how could you fail to feel festive?

John Lewis have actually had their decorations up since the beginning of October, which even for me seemed early, but they do change them regularly, so you don’t get festive fatigue by the time Christmas actually comes round. The decorations that hang down through the middle of the store had to be put up by professional abseilers.

By the time we got to the chocolate section I really was very over excited. Charbonnel & Walker always makes me think of Christmas. Every year my sister will buy me some of their beautiful chocolates, partly because they are amazing, but also because she tends to leave all her shopping until the week before Christmas and then buy everything  in a panic in John Lewis.

Dominic was very patient with us, as was the helpful woman who held a Hotel Chocolate slab for Belle, who was creating a photographic Christmas list as we walked around the store. He did look rather uncomfortable when Bee put him on the spot, calling on him to settle a family dispute over whether my jumper was purple or grey, (it is grey whatever you say Dominic), but he managed three excitable girls very well.

“Can we have tea here?” asked Bee at five-minute intervals. “I love it here! Can we?”

“Not tonight, our dinner is being cooked for us at home.”

“Well call home and cancel. I want tea here.”

“We’ll come back another day for tea, I promise.”

The best bit of the tour though was discovering that John Lewis do an exclusive Sylvanian Family John Lewis department store! How cool is that?? We’re massive Sylvanian Family fans.

It’s fantastic isn’t it?? I’m seriously considering swapping the Sylvanian stuff I’ve already bought Belle for Christmas. It’s really good value too as it comes with a family and about 200 pieces.
