I’ve never really bought into the idea that a full, cluttered desk is a sign that you’re super busy and creative, and far too important to organise yourself. When my desk gets messy, I just feel a bit out of control, and if anything, far less creative, as I feel hemmed in by stuff.
My desk has taken on a distinctly scruffy vibe lately, and it’s not cool.
So, it was time for a tidy up.
Despite my slummy title, tidying is one thing I really don’t mind. You don’t have to get your hands wet for a start, and it’s basically arranging things into nice piles, not cleaning per se. I was also feeling inspired as I had a couple of lovely new bits from Red Candy to include – a rather lovely copper letter rack and two giant thimbles.
The giant thimbles are designed are storage, either to keep pens in, or perhaps craft supplies. I think they’d be lovely for a crafter to keep knitting needles in, as modelled here by Red Candy:
I used mine though as plant pots, to bring a bit of spider baby action to the office. As you know, I’m a spider baby fiend, and like to spread the love. I also thought they’d be nice company for the teeny tiny succulent Belle gave me for Mothers’ Day.
Then it was just a case of sweeping all of my empty crisp packets and used tissues into the bin, stacking my notebooks neatly, and giving everything a good clean. I found a pack of face wipes in drawer, which came in very handy, even if they did make the office pong a bit of tea tree.
I think it looks pretty nice doesn’t it?
Now I have no excuse for not getting on with some work.
(Damn.)
What are your desk essentials? Do you work with a messy desk or do you prefer the minimalist approach?
I was sent the giant thimbles and copper letter rack from Red Candy for the purposes of this review. All opinions are my own.
Looks great! When I get myself a desk I’ll invest in some. I currently either work on the kitchen table or use an ironing board!

An ironing board?!?!
Indeed. When I’m working in the spare room I sit on the sofa, which is very low, so I use an ironing board as a desk, as it’s height is adjustable and it gives me plenty o’ room to do my shizzle. I can also raise it up to it’s full height and use it as one of those cool and trendy standing desks.
Ingenious huh?

It looks gorgeous and I love the thimbles and letter rack. How nice to have that beautiful fire surround as a backdrop. x

I’m really lucky – it’s a brilliant frame for everything and much nicer than a boring old wall.

I love that letter rack. You’re desk space looks really clean and lovely. I’ll have to have a look at their website. I have been known to have a penchant for stationary. And homeward. And… I think I’d better stop now. Great post. I’m enjoying your blog.
