The one where I go to New York to interview Antonio Banderas and the cast of the new SpongeBob movie: A Sponge Out of Water

Weather permitting, tomorrow I am flying out to New York to interview some of the cast of the new SpongeBob movie: A Sponge Out of Water.

*acts nonchalant*

Who am I kidding? I am about as chalant as it gets. (Why is chalant not a word? You feel like it should be.)

Firstly, there is the snow. I’m not good in snow. I will fall over and it will be embarrassing.

Second, NEW YORK BABY!! I have only been to America once and that was to go to Arkansas. Even the guards at airport security looked at me funny and asked me why I was bothering.

And finally – the thing I am most chalant about – I have to conduct video interviews with celebrities. When they asked whether I wanted to do written or video interviews I figured ‘in for a penny’ and all that, and so said video before I had chance to think about it. I figured it would look far more impressive and then you would know that I had actually been there and not just sent an interview by email.

Antonio banderas

I will be very disappointed if he doesn’t do the interview in full pirate costume.

The truth of the matter is though that I have to look up in the instruction manual how to even switch my camera into video mode. I have no idea even if I am meant to take my own camera. I am going to have about five minutes with each of the celebs and I suspect that four and a half of these could be taken up by me trying to figure out how the camera works, only to get home and discover that what I actually have is a series of blurry photographs.

You know Bridget Jones? You know how she slides down that fireman’s pole and lands in the pigsty? (Separately, but still.)

That.

Anywho, while I rush to download the first SpongeBob movie and try not to have a mental breakdown about the whole thing, I thought that you could help me out by coming up with some questions for me to ask. I will be speaking to:

  • Antonio Banderas
  • Paul Tibbitt, Director
  • Tom Kenny, Voice of SpongeBob
  • Bill Fagerbakke, Voice of Patrick Starr

*throws up a little bit in mouth with nerves and prays for the blizzard to increase in intensity*

So, what would you like me to ask them??

And also, what interesting stuff should I do in New York while I am there, once I have recovered from the kerfuffle of the interviews? I can’t miss the opportunity to fill a couple of the spaces on my 40 things before 40 list after all.

Thanks!

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR ARE YOU SERIOUS??? You lucky bugger. I lived in NYC, it’s magic, don’t worry about the weather just take wellies and a very very warm coat with a hood. And as for questions…I’d ask Antonio for a snog, and failing that, ask him where in Spain he’d go for a weekend break, other than Malaga, his hometown!

Ask him whether he still dances and when he learnt (I loved him in Take the Lead).

And New York – definitely Grand Central Station, I could have spent hours there looking round.

Sorry can’t think of any questions, don’t really know enough about SpongeBob, except both kids seem to like it (age 2 and 8), but have fun, and the old lady who lives down the road wear’s plastic bags tied on her shoes when it snows, stops you falling over apparently, if that’s any help!

Ask him whether he ever regrets passing up the chance with Madonna (it was him she flirted outrageously with in In bed with Madonna wasn’t it? Just kidding, have a marvellous time – you’ll be fine!

That is terribly exciting isn’t it. Steve has a question for Antonio:
‘In Desperado when you shoot at two people in two different directions with Salma Hayek sat on your lap, do you think that is actually possible?’

    ;)

Ahhh, that sounds amazing!! I was in NY for my 30th a couple of weeks ago, still haven’t got round to writing up our favourite places, but there is SO much to do. I fell in love with the city.

Brooklyn and East Village were probably my favourite places for a mooch and a drink – so many nice bars. Chelsea Market is another great place to browse for a few hours. Walking over Brooklyn Bridge was another favourite. The World Trade center memorials are very moving.

In Williamsburg there is the (indoor) rooftop bar at the Whythe Hotel, which has the BEST views of the skyline. And in Times Square there is the slightly more soulless revolving bar version at the Marriott, but you still get a great view of the city. Zabloski’s in Williamsburg was another nice, chilled out bar. Brunch at Buttermilk Channel was the best thing I ate all week.

You are so lucky Jo I might just have to hug you for it! :)

What a fab thing to go and do.

Hmmm as for questions… What is your favourite spongebob episode?

To be honest I have no idea what I would ask them as I would probably be totally star struck for the whole five mixtures. Wow what an amazing experience and really hope you have a wonderful time (I am sure you will) and I cannot wait to hear about your adventure
