WARNING: This post in very uncool. If you are likely to be offended by the pleading of an angst ridden blogger, please look away now.
The world of mummy and daddy blogging has been buzzing this week following the launch of the new MAD blogging awards, aimed at celebrating the best UK parent blogs. There are several different categories and in most cases the winners are chosen by the public vote – the more nominations therefore the better.
Now there have been some people claiming that they don’t mind whether or not they get nominated, that perhaps having awards at all flies in the face of the ‘spirit of blogging’, but I must admit I’m not convinced . Maybe it isn’t the cool thing to admit, but I do care. I care if people like my blog. I’ve only been blogging a few months, but already I feel part of an amazing community, and other people’s opinions matter to me. Every positive comment I get makes me smile, I obsessively check my stats, and I am hugely grateful for every person that reads my outpourings.
There. I said it.
Maybe there are people who genuinely don’t care if one or one hundred people read their posts, but if I didn’t care I would just scribble my thoughts in a notebook and hide them under my mattress, like I do with my more private ramblings. (Note to Bee – don’t actually go and look under my mattress, it is a metaphorical mattress). I blog because I want other people to read what I have to say. I want to make people laugh, I want to strike a chord, touch a nerve, make people think. I want people to LIKE ME damn it.
So, with my fragile ego in mind, if you enjoy my blog then please nominate me! It will make me happy. Thank you.

LOL! I was nominated for best new blog, which did genuinely surprise me as I have only been going for a month or so and up until this week only had about 10 followers. Up until the nomination, I was trying the “la, la, don’t care, I’m doing this for me” song. It is a nice feeling though – I am under no illusion that I have any chance of winning, but the recognition did make me glow. However I know there are a lot of people out there who feel uncomfortable about the whole thing, and I totally understand and respect their position, maybe I would feel the same if it were not such a novelty to me

I think it is really jealousy on my part. I’d love to be casual and confident about it, not bothered if anyone was taking any notice of me, but I always was a very praise driven child – house points were my driving force :-)

Those who say they don’t care are lying! Or else they are so successful it doesn’t matter. I too, check my stats and love getting comments. I’m not a writer so if no one reads it I probably wouldn’t write it. Not sure where I’m going with this but just wanted to say that I agree with you whole-heartedly!

Completely agree, I have only been going about 6 weeks but would love to be nominated, I know I probably won’t win anything because the competition is so strong – maybe next year I’ll be more established etc. But it would be nice to know someone thinks I am good enough to be nominated!! I thought it was just me so well done to you for showing me I am not alone!
There seems to be a lot of false modesty about, so I’m standing up for the bloggers who want to be nominated and don’t care who knows it :-)
